Hello everyone,

Well.. I have been quietly reading all of the message boards here in the Remote Central site.. bravo! btw.

You all have finally gotten to me.. an hour ago I broke down and ordered my Pronto.. for top-dollar from the only place on earth I could find with them in stock.

UPS Ground shipped it came to $409.00. Although I specifically asked about the offer to match the AVI price as mentioned in another thread, they declined.. and I just couldn't wait for the unit from AVI. (I am a gizmo junkie after all.)

So mine will arrive sometime next week. Being that I am a programmer, I am eager to see the software as soon as it is released. The entire unit and software is tailored to my specialties.. user interfaces and databases... I can't wait to program it both directly and via software.

So I suppose this is an introduciton, a thank you for the great information, and a 'cussing' for getting me so wound up I had to have it now.

Happy New Year to all.

Pierre.

Pierre,

I share your pain. I was going to get the Marantz RC2000 (BFG-9000) remote until I came across Remote Central here. After two days of intense surfing, I decided that the Proto was really the way to go. I called QAudio (thanks for the prompt service) and had one Overnighted to me. I then turned around and Ordered at IR to X-10 interface just for grins. After 24 hours of pretty intese beaming, I'm nearly done, at least until the software gets here. So far, everything has worked flawlessly. The macros are a real kick in the pants. It has handled ALL of my equipment with no problems. Kudos to Phillips on a genuinely fine instrument that has my nifty meter pegged. So far, it's controlling the following...

Mitubishi 60703 TV
General Instrument Digital Cable Box
Pioneer 702 LaserDisk
Yamaha RX-V2095 (love it)
Proscan SVHS VCR
Toshiba DVD
Kenwood Cassette
Kenwood 7 Disk Changer
Kenwood AV Receiver
Various X10 controlled devices, including dimming

Thanks to everyone on the forum for their helpful suggestions, careful (and sparse) criticisms and insights into this device.

Any URL's where one can read about IR/X10 interfaces?

Bill,
Have a look at x10pro.com model IR543 under home entertainment section. The device is low cost and converts IR commands (8) to x-10.

Bill,

You could also take a look at this link..

[Link: smarthome.com]

The 4040 will do 16 devices and costs just $29.95

I have not tried the unit as yet, but I was on the same hunt last night. This vendor seems to have a very good selection of devices and accessories for IR and X10 related toys.. I closed and exited my browser when I got to Voice/IR/X10/PC toys.. I don't even have the Pronto yet. :-)

If you get one of these.. could you post your experience?

Pierre.

I ordered my 4040 from www.smarthome.com. Good Prices, good service. no affiliation. Tons of home automation stuff. Drapes, blinds, security, X-10, fountains, you name it, they've got something to automate it.
