I am still using an old Pioneer VSX-501 Prologic receiver. I have the Pronto remote and here is my problem. The receiver remote did not have independent source buttons, (ie. vcr, ld, sat etc) but rather a single button used to cycle through the varios sources. Is there any way to find the IR codes for individual source selections and program them into my Pronto. thanks johnf

This is not uncommon. Typically there is not a seperate IR code for each source, merely one code that steps through them. My Sony TV is like this, and the only workaround I found was to select a TV station by direct number input, and then hit the Source button the appropriate number of times - within a macro.
Is there some code that sets your receiver back to the beginning of the sequence?

I wouldn't rule out the existence of seperate codes. My Onkyo 939 is the same way with a video source up and down only on the remote. I have a cheapo universal Sony remote and using it's supplied Onkyo receiver code, it gives direct access to video1, 2, and 3. So using the Sony's IR signals and the up increments on the Onkyo remote I can write macros for all video inputs from 1 through 7 via the Pronto.
Also Oneforall has 'extended function codes' for some components, but their e-mail support is horrendous.

John --
I have the same equipment (hense my "toggle topic" thread earlier.
I cannot find anything indicating individual codes for the selections (on my Yamaha receiver however, the unit has a toggle but the remote had individual buttons).
The only solution I can think of is to come up with some bizzar command sequence that results in placing the receiver in a known/predictable state. Then, you can trust that a correct number of toggles will get you to where you expect to be.
I'll try playing around tonight. Let me know if you come up with anything.

Thanks for the help. I may have come up with a solution. After checking with a friend of mine who owns a custom home theater store, it turns out that Pioneer has not changed their codes and the remote for their newest equipment may still be the same as for their old equipment. If this is the case, my friend will let me use the remote for the display model to program my Pronto. I'll let you know how it turns out johnf.

Possible Solution.
On my Pioneer remote, there's a button called "RETURN". On an out-of-the-box receiver, it sets the receiver to FM RADIO in standard audio mode and dis-engages the monitor button. In other words; RETURN appears to always place the receiver into the same settings for FUNCTION and AUDIO MODE; so I have been able to program the PRONTO with a working source and audio mode selections by selecting RETURN, and then toggling to the settings I really wanted.
Hope it helps
