Try a camera store, e.g., Wolf Camera and Video.

You might also consider rechargable metal hydride batteries. d-store has them:

But bear in mind that Pronto lasts a long time on normal alkalines - I'm still running on my first set in my pre-production unit (i.e. several months, heavy usage, still three bars left on the gauge). It was designed from the start to be frugal with power.

Agreed! My pronto still shows full battery strength after heavy, all day usage for over a month. My question is: Why would anyone spend $80 on the dock? At my current drain rate, I won't even spend $20 a year on batteries!

I guess that to some extent, docks are more environmental friendly.
As far as standard alkaline batteries are concerned, they have a fairly low internal impedance and therefore will likely look quite good until near the end. Lithiums will look great right up to the end as they even lower internal impedance characteristics.

Your particular choice in backlight timing
will probably have more to do with battery
life than anything else. Also, a memory purge
or two would have an impact. My original set of
AA's in package lasted ten days. These Energizers
are fairing much better so far.

Walmart has the Alkaline batteries also
I have seen them at Lowes both places are cheaper than the Hi Tech places
I have been using them in my Newton Message pad for over a year.
