It's been a while since I've visited, so this may have already been addressed. Does Kenwood not believe in discrete codes? I have been trying to locate discretes for my VR2080, along with the other components in my HT for some time now. I have been able to come up with the majority of the components, but the VR2080 is still giving me fits. I've downloaded the two CCFs for the VR2090, but they don't have discretes to my knowledge.

Anyone have any ideas? Is there a way to develop discretes, or am I stuck using the same code for on/off?

I have the same problem for Kenwood receiver VR-3080. Does anyone know if it support discrete power commands?

I'm doing a bump on this. I'm still don't have any or know if any discrete codes exist for this receiver.

As far as I know Kenwood supports discrete input selection, but power and audio mode are toggles.

I have good and bad news.

Good news: receiver DOES support discrete power. As a proof you can take a look at original macro commands at remote control. It has audio/video kenwood macro and it does turn receiver on and off (discrete)

Bad news: Pronto and SONY 2100 can not learn the code. It learns only first part which is: 0000 006d 0022 0000 0152 00ad 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 003d 0016 003d 0016 003d 0016 0015 0016 003d 0016 003d 0016 0015 0016 003d 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 003d 0016 003d 0016 003d 0016 003d 0016 003d 0016 003d 0016 003d 0016 003d 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 00ad

for both ON and OFF. Something else is missing and I don't know what and how to get it.

Just to clarify.

I referred to original macro commands. - Original remote that came with receiver has macro capabilities with 4 default macros (Video On, Video Off, Audio On, Audio Off) and 3 custom macros. All default macros send discrete code to turn receiver on or off. I've checked it and works fine. The problem is Pronto learns only until 00ad (power toggle code ends with the same number). Something else follows it (I can see activities on a Kenwood remote). If anybody has any idea how I can learn second part of this code or, may be, somebody has better tools to record the full IR code?

Well, at least there is a slight glimmer of hope. Right now I've got a screen where the user has to select whether the receiver is on or off before going to any other macros. Kind of a pain in the butt. I'm also going to try and find a discrete code for my TV (9 year old Magnavox RPTV) which will aide me dramatically in my programming.

Oleg, what did you use to capture the hex codes? I'm sure that there's a program that's basically right under my nose, but I've not come across such an animal. Are these type programs easy to obtain? Maybe there's some type of software out on the Net that will allow for a more complete capture of the code.

In my newbie brain, something makes me think that maybe the discrete code is too long of a string for the Pronto to capture. Maybe the Pronto's "timing out" as it does if no signal is encountered. I have noticed that the "learn" function only stays active for a limited amount of time, regardless of whether a signal is detected or not.

I'll keep my fingers crossed on this.

I've used Pronto to learn IR code and you can use prontoedit to view HEX. You need to click 2 times on the "Learned" IR code and then click view. Prontoedit v2.0 require some modification to the .ini file to modify the code. (look in FAQ at remotecentral).

I don't think Pronto can't learn the code because it's too long. Many other codes it learned are much longer. When Pronto learns IR it performs some basic analysis if code is valid or not. It looks like every IR has lead in and lead out HEX number. This tells remote when code starts and when it ends. The code it captures for Kenwood ON/OFF is a perfectly valid and complete code from Pronto standpoint. It could be that it says "Discrete power command follows" and then it should send On or Off command. But Pronto does not care about second part and stops learning. SONY 2100 remote does exactly the same.
For your Magnavox TV you can try to "guess" the code. You need to download IRTool, Pronto Util, and IR Panels programs from Files area at remotecentral. If you search this forum you will find all instructions how to use these programs.

Thanks, Oleg. I, at least for now, have developed my CCF to where it will prompt you for the status of the receiver (on/off). Would be really nice to eliminate a couple of panels.

I'll try downloading those programs and see what happens. I would really like to have the TV controlled with discretes.

In a nutshell, no. As Oleg had stated earlier, when his Pronto "learns" the discrete code, it for some reason truncates the code. I plan on messing around with it sometime this week and see if I can some how get the last part of the discrete figured out.

I'll post my findings/lack of findings on this thread. If I am successful, I will probably post that portion of my CCF in the "Files" section.

On the Soverign series, You can use the zones for discrete power on, If you turn zone A on when the reciever is in the off state the receiver will power up. If yours does not have Dual Zone capabilities than I do not know.
