Finally! Yahoo, you rock! After six hours of banging my head on the desk, I followed these instructions and after rebooting, it works.

I also got the "failed to register" and "missing MFC71.dll" errors. I found a much easier solution that worked for me with both Windows XP and XP MCE 2005. I simply uninstalled 3.04 in Add/Remove Programs, rebooted, then downloaded and installed the multilanguage version of the 3.04 installer from ATI's web site. That version includes MFC71.DLL in the installation. No errors, no problems.

Hey I didn't read through this whole thread but for anyone with this problem just download & install .NET framework 2.0 from Microsoft's site. You'll end up needing it for other stuff eventually anyway...
