Is the new style URC-8910 w/o the donut available anywhere yet?

Surf Remote Control has the new ones. I just checked their site and the old pictures are still showing, but the new pictures were showing earlier today.

Sorry, I forgot to update the main product pages with the new pictures. We now have both the new 8910s and 9910s. For those who are interested, we still have some of the old models at closeout prices on our "Hot Buys" page.

Do you know if the button placement on the board has changed? Can I take the board out of a new 8910 and replace it with one from an old 9910?

The buttons are in the same location, but the top bezel is different so you'd have to replace that as well.

My guess is "yes", but even if they've changed the PCB, you could always just move the RF puck from the 9910 into the 8910.

Yeah, but on my 9910, the glue that is holding the puck is all over the modem coil. It seems to be easier to unscrew, than unglue. And I don't need another basestation, I have 8 already. Mike, your thinking is to trade the upper membrane and bezel, would that work?

I don't know Edmund. I haven't popped one open. It looks like it would, but that's just a guess.

We'll see, I ordered it from you. I had my old style 9910 opened many times, in fact I put the LCD in upside-down. The worst part, is getting the membrane's little fingers back into the donut.

This definitely doesn't sound like something you would expect to read in a remote control forum! :)

Edmund,

let us know how it works. I suspect thatvthere was a pcb changed to accomodate which, looks like to me, a broader width for the directional keys. The "select" key is also significantly larger, which *may* hit all 5 traces at once. That's just a guess based on just looking at the external pix of the 2. If true, you may be stuck putting a puck into the new 8910. If the old 9910 is hard or almost impossible to remove the puck, as an alternative, a Puck from a P-8 may be easier to remove. I guess you'll be the "guinea pig" for this hack, so keep us informed.

BTW, good luck

Jim

Well. I received the new 8910 at 8:33pm, strange hour for a delivery. But the bad news is won't work, looks to more than a 1/4 inch difference in button placement of the left cursor between the two remotes. Big reason for the difference, is the center key, how much larger it is on the new remote. Which pushes the right & left cursor keys further apart.

So, now that that's settled, are you going to transfer the RF puck? It's really not that hard to do.
