I have a 12 year old Optimus stereo system. I lost the remote. This system has a 6-disc CD magazine and a dual cassette deck. I love this thing. Any suggestions for a remote that will operate it?

I did a quick search in the RC forums for "Optimus" (you might want to do the same). The statement I found that summarized everything else I found was:

"Optimus", "Realistic" and "Radio Shack" are basically
relabeled anything.

You haven't even given us a model number (that probably wouldn't help, but it might). So your Optimus stereo could be almost anything.

OFA remotes (such as the bargain URC-6012w at Walmart) have a big library of audio codes. Quite a lot of those are in the list of audio codes that OFA has seen in Optimus models. There is a good chance that one of those codes will operate your Optimus stereo. But finding the right code may take a while and there is some chance it isn't present.

None of the current OFA remotes include codes for tape decks, other than sony. The radio shack 15-2116 still large selection of tape codes. The optimus probably responds to the pioneer codes.

Tamara also emailed me about this. I've sent her off looking for the model number. As the receiver dates from around 1992, I'm hoping that there's a code for it in my old Radio Shack 15-1905 remote, the reason being that Radio Shack actually lists all of their own model numbers next to the appropiate setup code.

Once we know the right setup code, then it's just a question of figuring out which current remotes have the code, or loading it into a new remote.

You know Rob, the catalog # isn't the same as the model #.:( The equipment usually doesn't have the CAT # on it,and remote manuals only show the CAT #.

If that's true, it doesn't make sense. If they're gonna go to the effort of giving you a model/cat number, it would only make sense if it's a number that means something to the user.

At any rate, here's an extract from the online 15-1908 manual...

CD Players:
Optimus..............179............42-5015
Optimus..............096............42-8402
Optimus..............175............CD-1650 (42-5013)
Optimus..............426............CD-1660 (42-5031)
Optimus..............194............CD-2450 (42-5016)
Optimus..............437............CD-1760 (42-5030), (42-6200), (42-5023, 42-5024)
Optimus..............196............CD-2460 (42-5019)
Optimus..............000............CD-6100 (42-5021)
Optimus..............420............CD-6120 (42-5022)
Optimus..............440............CD/Amp/Tuner System 600 (13-1247)
Optimus..............037............System 620 (13-1251)

Actually, based on that list I wouldn't be surprised if it's the "System 600" (13-1247) seeing as how there are CD and 2 tape codes for this system.

All three codes are = NEC1 131.101 so building an upgrade won't be too difficult, plus these codes can still be found in recent Radio Shack remotes, like the 15-2116.

I have optimus remote, on the back is CAT No 31-3042, 31-3043, Model #STAV-3770. It controls a CD, TAPE, and Amp. The remote controls my pioneer TAPE, CD, and Amp. I have the manual left over from old RS 15-1924, there are two AMP brands listed in it, Optimus & sherwood, Receiver brands Optimus & JVC. Back when I still owned the 15-1924 remote, the Optimus codes controlled my pioneer receiver. The catelog #'s included in the 15-1924 manual are:

31-3024, 31-3035, 31-3036, 31-3037, 31-3038

The CD/0037 code is Sharp, device 20

I assume you already emailed Tamara the information that those setup codes are in many OFA models (including the Wal-Mart bargain one 6012w), so it should be no problem to find a compatible remote even without JP1.

Also I notice this device does not use the Pioneer IR signals. I'm sure Edmund (and others in other threads) had good evidence to support the guess that an Optimus audio device would be a relabeled Pioneer. But this one adds support to Daniel's view (quoted above) that it could be anything.

Without facts, what is left, is a assumption. I still standby that you will ony find sony tape codes in current ofa remotes. If they don't have sony, then there aren't any tape codes. The 2116 is the last with full complement of codes for tape decks.

Does anyone know if I can program my 4-in-one remote 15-2114 so I can use it on my Sanyo vwm-260 vcr? I lost the controller I had for the vcr, and now I have to operate it manually when I want to tape a show. I tried to find a site that had the codes for it, but I cant find anyone that knows where the site is. I also have a Phillips Magnavox TV with satellite connected to it with a different remote for the cable. The remote I am trying to program works on the volume control on my tv, but it wont let me change channels. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I appreciate the help.

Mary Lou, please start a seperate thread for your question rather than hijacking this old thread. This thread is about an Optimus stereo receiver, whereas your post is about a Sanyo VCR. I think you'll agree that the two have very little in common.
