Just bought a 1994 and, with the help of this site and Rob's, am "pretty much"liking it. I'm trying Rob's suggestion on input macros from his tip and trick section but am having trouble finding advanced ON and OFF codes for my older (1995) receiver. I'm using device code 0176. The Power Toggle code (250) works fine, but the codes listed for discrete ON and OFF don't work. Anyone with an older Yamaha have any luck? Or should I pull out the spreadsheet and go 000 - 255?
Fantastic sites by the way! Very useful.

It may be that your older model doesn't support discrete power codes, it has been known to happen. Yamaha seems to be adding new discrete codes with every new model, maybe yours dates from too far back.

Just guessing.

I have the same receiver, and have been searching for the perfect remote for my system. I took my receiver into my local Sound Advice and tested four newer Yamaha remotes -- the original remote was a universal, and worked very well, except that the numbered buttons were 1-8 only, no 9 or 0 available (pretty useless). I hoped to find that the other Yamaha remotes could control my system. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. None of them could control my functions.

Good luck, and if you find the answer, I'd like to have it myself. I'll need it when I finally find my perfect remote! Thanks, Holly.

Holly, are you simply looking for a universal remote that can replicate all of the buttons that are on your original Yamaha remote, or are you looking for a universal that will enable you to create functions that didn't previously exist.

The person who started this thread is looking for discrete ON and OFF codes, these are functions that are not on the original yamaha remotes. Newer units are programmed to respond to these codes but it appears that older units are not.

If you are just looking to replicate all of your original buttons and are willing to be without your original remote for a few days, drop me a line and I'll hook you up.

Just got my new URC9800 and from some reason i can't operate the backlite (It worked for a few times in the beginning).
I checked the "LITE" key and it operates the Remote but... No Light.
Any Ideas ???
