Hello all,

I just bought an RCA 9" TV/VCR combo and I was
trying to get my R/S 15-1994 remote to control it.
So far, none of the RCA combo device codes, nor the
VCR codes work. I heard mention of contacting the
manufacturer about it and was wondering how to do that.
Do I just write to RCA and ask them for the codes that
the remote uses? Or, has anyone figured out other
brands that might work with this setup?

thanks peterb

Have you tried programming some of the RCA TV codes to the TV device button on the 15-1994 and the RCA VCR codes to the VCR button, and then seeing if you can get the TV functions to work from the TV device button and the VCR functions to work from the VCR button.

Not yet. I do have a Dish Network remote that I
did try this on with no success. I only had time
to try the TV/VCR combo's and the VCR only ones.
I also have an XL100 (RCA) and I use the 1994 to
control that. That particular code does not work.
I will "move" the TV attribute to Aux2 (I had moved
the VCR attribute to it last night) tonight and
try the TV codes.

Ideally, I want the Dish Network one to work because
the 1994 is the remote I use in the living room with
the "big" TV and the Dish Network Sat is there too.
I plan on running a Coax to the bedroom where this
combo unit will be and since the Sat receiver has a
UHF remote, I was hoping to be able to use that in
the bedroom so that I could watch the antenna or the
Sat on the combo unit.

So, I was using the 1994 last night to see if it
was just that the Dish Network remote didn't have
enough RCA codes, or if maybe this combo unit uses
some new codes that neihter has. I know, confusing.:-)

I plan on contacting Dish to see if they have an
updated code listing. BTW, the Dish remote did control
a Toshiba using both TV and VCR buttons to control all.
I went with the RCA since it was available and the
Toshiba is new an won't be out for a while. There
aren't too many 9" combo units out there for sale
out there.

RCA doesn't vary it's remote codes much, so you should be able to find codes in the 1994 that work. But, there is a bug in the way that the 1994 handles RCA codes. It doesn't usually affect TV's and VCR's but does affect things like audio receivers and their DirecTV dishes. Maybe your combo is more sensitive and is rejecting the 1994's version of the RCA signal.

Bummer. OK, well another point of evidence is that
the remote that came with the combo unit will not
control either my TV nor my VCR (both of which are
RCA). So, it does seem to me that its different
codes and not really a bug. But, I could be wrong.
I'll try the TV codes tonight as that might shead
some light on the subject.

thanks for the ideas.
