I've been searching and reading for a week all postings related to the OFA remotes and others, and still I can't make up my mind which one will better serve my needs, some units are strong in one feature but lack behind in others, at this point I would like to get a unit with LED display, backlighting and learning capabilities as flexible as possible with memory and room to grow under $100.00, I was leaning for the URC 8800 but if I understand correctly there are learning keys limitations, the RCA RCV 810 is low in memory, and the cinema 7,RS-1994, and SONY VL 900 lack any display and/or backlight, and if I were to spend any more $$ on a remote, might as well move up to the AV2100 or Pronto,(overkill?)I know there is no perfect remote in this price range but maybe you guys can suggest the best match for my gear?
JVC Receiver, JVC TV, GEN 5 Hughes DSS, JVC VHS, technics sd5500(?)DD decoder, Toshiba DVD, JVC CD, I still use JVC compulink but I can't control the DVD, decoder, or DSS besides I plan to upgrade away from JVC soon, Thanks

The RS-1994 does have backlit buttons (cool blue) and a light button to turn them on anytime you want. It also comes on when you press any button. It has enough memory to handle a lot of devices, when programmed carefully, although at six or more devices, it gets trickier. And at $30 on sale, it can't be beat.

The $99 CrispSolutions UCommand 515 learns everything your original remote can throw at it, and learns it incredibly easily and fast. It has lots of memory, and uses a touchscreen with auto-lighting. It is my favourite remote. ... Mike

Thanks for your suggestion, I will give the RS 1994 a second look, what do you think of the URC8800 compared to the RCA RCU810?

Very few remotes are flexible. Prontos and others with LCD screens are the most stiff. Try to bend a Pronto and you'll crack the screen. Very expensive to fix.

I saw a prototype of a keyboard membrane sewn into the fabric of a pair of jeans. You "wore" your keyboard. Very flexible. How you would explain all that fiddling with your lap I'm not sure, but the technology seems interesting. I'll bet they could sew the controls of a universal remote into the sleeve of a long sleeved shirt. Of course you'll have to have a second hand to use it. You one-handed folks are out of luck.

Flexibility would be a nice feature, I'll admit. It's just too bad that it's not what your question was really asking. Oh well.
