Okay I need the code for a Toshiba 3109 DVD player for the Cinema 7/Radio Shack model. Do I use Aux 1 or Aux 2 (or either?) or another key? I tried using Aux 2 with "0 plus the 3 digit key" from the A/V Producer 8 but this did not work??

I did get this unit to recognize my STR-DB930 Sony receiver BUT I could not line up the remotes and get the unit to learn the "surround field" button from my STR-DB930. Any suggestions here? I probably can get this last item figured out with a few more minutes of playing around. BUT the main problem is getting this unit to figure out my Toshiba 3109 DVD. Please HELP!!

As stated in an earlier post, I am comparing the A/V Producer 8 with the Radio Shack/Cinema 7 remote. The A/V Producer 8 is much easier to set up and I like the LCD screen better than the Radio Shack Cinema 7. However, the A/V Producer 8 does not appear to have a "learning key" that would be helpful in selecting special remote features I would like to program (e.g. the Zoom key on the Toshiba DVD and the "Surround Cinema" audio type from the Sony receiver.) Is this correct? That is, does the A/V Producer 8 have some special learning keys that could generate the Toshiba "Zoom" and Sony receiver "Surround" functions? Also, the A/V Producer 8 has a "Home Theater" function which is highly useful but is lacking from the Cinema 7/Radio Shack. This "Home Theatre" function allows you to control multiple components of your HT designated equipment without having to press the "TV" or "DVD" or "Tuner" keys each time you need to operate that single piece of equipment. You specify which components/features take priority in your Home Theater setup, and control them all using the Home Theater key.

Marks,

I have owned all of the units you referred to. I'm sticking with the RS 15-1994. This remote does it all. Take a look at the dozens of post about this remote under the "Universal Remotes" forum. I own the Toshiba 2109 DVD and had no problems using the 0503 (I think this it it, I don't have the manual with me right now)code supplied in the manual. But first, you have to set up the AUX 2 key to accept VCR commands. You do this by "key moving" the VCR command. Read through the posts for "Amazing Discovery.." on the forum I mentioned. You cannot learn any keys on the original HP 8 remote. You can learn only to the six special learning keys on the new HP 8. That gives you the ability to learn 48 commnads across the eight modes, I believe. the Cinema 7 and the RS can learn to any key (except power, backlite (for the RS) or component selections. You can get advanced codes for the HP 8 to teach it extra commands like Zoom but you're bound to run in to some codes that are just not there (I did). I also liked the Theater function on the HP 8. I resolved the lack of this button by copying my SAT menu, movement and selection keys, and basic DVD transport controls on to the Receiver function. I now get "Theater" functionality by accessing the receiver set to AUX 1. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your post. I needed the advice and comments you gave, and will give it a try. Rest assured, I will try to be objective as possible in discussing the pros and cons of each of these remotes (i.e. A/V 8 vs Cinema7 Radio Shack). Hopefully, the remotecentral.com folks will get their A/V 8 unit soon and will also give their review as well. That being said, my review will be solely limited as to what works best on my equipment. Namely, a Sony STR-DB930 receiver, a Toshiba 3109 DVD, a older Sansui HiFi VCR, and Energy Take 5 + ESL8 subwoofer.

Again, thanks very much for the information you gave. I'll try it out and look for that "amazing discovery" link you referenced.
