Am trying to determine which of these remote controls is the best for my home theatre system as follows:
1. Sony STR-DB930 receiver
2. Energy Take 5 Speakers with ESL8 sub
3. Toshiba CZ32V61 32" TV (dual tuners)
4. Toshiba SD-3109 DVD
5. Sansui Hifi VCR
The universal remote that came with the Sony STR-DB930 receiver left something to be desired...

Any comments or opinions on choosing between these 2 remotes would be appreciated.

PS: (the price difference is not an issue between these 2 units, but I'm not going to spend $300 on a Pronto!@!)

I haven't seen the radio shack remote. My guess though is that they will both support the same devices. The Cinemas don't have a backlight. Their look is a little less classy and more consumer. I don't have any of the equipment you listed so I can't tell you how well the remotes support them.

They (Radio Shack 15-1994) will support the same codes as the OFA remotes. As a matter of fact, the toll free assistance number, IS Universal Electronics, Inc., makers of the Cinema 7 & A/V Producer 8.

I picked the Radio Shack remote for a couple of reasons:

1. Styling much better than OFA
2. Backlighting!!! Not cheesy glow-in-the-dark keys like OFA!

I'm asking about the OneForAll remote and all I get back in response is Radio Shack?? Gosh, I'm confused here but it appears that these are near identical remotes? In any event, can Radio Shack beat the $49.95 price offered on the OneForAll A/V 8 by smarthome.com? Or is the Cinema 7 learning remote a better unit, at under $25, I'll just pick this one up at Walmart across the street. Or is there some fetish thing about Radio Shack I'm not aware...

The reason you are hearing so much about the Radio Shack 15-1994 is because it IS a OFA remote that has been redisigned fo Radio Shack. See my above post as to the reasons that it is better than the OFA remote.

By the way, the Radio Shack is on sale for $29.99! Spend the extra $5.00 for this remote. You'll be glad that you did.

Okay, you convinced me, I'm off to Radio Shack to take a look at this remote. As a matter of truth in advertising though, we need to change this bulletin board name from "One for All" to "Radio Shack"!!

Thanks for your e-mails. Well, I decided to get both the Radio Shack model AND the new A/V Producer 8 and test them head to head. I will be returning one of them... I may take you up on that offer of programming! THANKS!

Hey Mark you obviously have seen the picture of the A/V Producer 8: which I think is the best looking remote in the world. Since you bought Radio Shock model two questions for ya:

First :How radishock model compares to A/V 8 from design stand point of view (like how does it look , feel etc)

Second: Are the button on A/V 8 backlighted or glow-in-the-dark type of thing, what about Radioshock.

i won't hide it, but the look of remote is very important to me, otherwise I would be extremely happy with Cinema 7: I love it's learning abilities, but it's desighn is less then stellar: hard to believe that a/v Producer 8 is from the same company !!

If you are most interested in looks, then by all means go with the A/V Producer 8. The LCD screen is great, and the AV8 is also a "very bright" glow in the dark as opposed to Cinema 7 which is somewhat hard to see in the dark. If you want ease of setup, then also go with the A/V Producer 8. I am e-mailing "one-for-all" requesting the "advanced function codes" which I hope will give the A/V Producer 8 full functionality with the component features I want (zoom option in Toshiba DVD and surround option in Sony DB930 receiver). It seems the Cinema 7 may be better in this regard (learning features), but if you are primarily interested in "looks" and "ease of use" (e.g. Home Theater mode), the A/V Producer 8 appears to be the better choice to me, at this time. I need more time (and help) to fully evaluate both remotes.

I hope someone will respond to my other post, giving me the DVD codes for my Toshiba 3109. I cannot get this DVD to work right with my Cinema 7/Radio Shack learning unit. PLEASE ADVISE!

Hey, thanks much for this info! I'll have time this Thanksgiving vacation to start experimenting around with this remote. You're faster than allforone or Radio Shack cusotmer service, thanks again.

I for one like the looks of the AV 8 (and loved the backlighting), but returned it for a Cinema 7 Learning because the 7 can learn on almost all keys, not just the dedicated learning keys. If the AV 8 learned on all keys it would definitely be a keeper.

I still have the one for all 8000 Home Producer but it now lives in the bedroom- The Marantz 5000i replaced it a couple years ago, and the Logitech Harmony 680 has replaced the Marantz....
