I just purchased the 15-1994. I think it was an excellent choice. The only problem I have found is that I have to aim directly at the unit being controlled or else I don't get a response. I have new batteries installed.
It appears to have a very weak IR output signal. Does anyone have any comments regarding this?

All IR remotes need to be aimed somewhat in the direction of the device being controlled, I have found the IR strength of my 15-1994 to be more than adequate.

Rob,

I was using my very small remote supplied with my Dish Network Dishplayer which I could aim anywhere in the room. Now I have to aim the 15-1994 DIRECTLY at the Dishplayer.
I am very surprised that it is not as powerful as a remote 1/2 its' size.
Any ideas?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm......... I don't know why that would happen, but I find that I can virtually point my 1994 backwards and control all of my components - tape, dvd, vcr, receiver, cd changer. The TV is more finicky (a 9 year old TV), but I can point it a 60 degree angle away - up, down, sideways, and it still picks up the signal from the 1994 from over 20 feet. I am extremely pleased witht the range and dispersion of my 1994. - Greg :-)

Mel,

Are you using brand new batteries?

The 1994 may come with more than one IR emitter. All emitters might not be working. I'd suggest going back to Radio Shack and asking for a different one.

I have a comparable Cinema7 remote. I can control most of my equipment even when this remote is hidden under a blanket. I've been able to control living room equipment while I am in my dining room, and not in a direct line-of-sight with the equipment. The signal apparently bounces off a wall to get there. Summary? Your 1994 remote should have no trouble controlling your devices. Something is wrong.

The last thing I'd check is "have you dusted your equipment lately?". A thick coat of dust on an IR receiver will reduce the likelyhood of a signal getting thru.

Good luck,

Dave

What a difference!!!!

I replaced the remote with a new one and the difference is incredible! I can aim the remote just about anywhere and the signal is received.
I must have had a bad unit.
Thanks again to all.

How did you get to work with your Dishplayer?
There aren't any codes for it.
