Need discrete codes for Hitachi 0145 Video Modes

Does anyone know if discrete codes exist for code 0145 Hitachi Television's vidoe select button (called the AVX button). I know the toggle code is 313 but I was hoping not to have to use two memory slots in a macro to switch inputs (e.g., having to press the avx button twice to toggle between S Video and Channel 3 mode.

Also, I have been unable to put macros on any other keys other than power, video and audio on my RS 1995. Rob suggests that any key can be taught a macro on the 1995 and I was wondering if anyone has any actual success in doing so. I've also had a problem where when I try to program a macro it may not work in my home theater mode but will work in any other device mode. I've also experienced programming a macro on my home theater device key but it didn't effect the same key in any individual device mode. (Pretty weird, huh?) I've found that in order to be sure that a macro works in the home theater mode on the 1995 is to actually program the macro while in this mode. Has anyone else had the same experience? Thakns for any input.

HEre are all the advanced codes: [Link: starbase314.com]

There are no discrete codes for the video inputs, but you can acieve the same thing by inserting a "channel up" (or down) in the macro sequence.

Check out my FAQ for a complete description:

Hey Rodd,
The thing to remember with macros is that they have a lower priority level than learned keys and programmed (ie, advanced codes) keys. So if you program a button using an advanced code it will out-rank the macro on the same button.

I only had the 15-1995 for a short while to run some tests on it, and I was able to put macro's on the few buttons that I tried. Maybe someone more experienced on the 15-1995 can help out here.

Actually Rodd, you could run a test for me, seeing as you have the 15-1994 and the 15-1995. I've just recently discovered that there is an RF modulator inside the 15-1994, so I believe that it will operate with the base unit from the 15-1995. Could you try verifying this for me please?

Thanks,
Rob.

Gerald,
I notice in the advanced code listing that the TV also works with adv codes from 0279 and 0413, do we know if anyone has tried looking for codes in those device codes?
Rob.

I'll take a look since I have a Hitachi TV. I found a number of interesting things while scanning advanced codes through 0145. Most were useless functions that would turn a setting (such as brightness, volume, etc.) all the way up or down.

One interesting one I found at 255 seems to initiate a factory self test. I runs for about 5-10 mins and then leaves you with a totally green screen. I assume that means all was OK. I had to turn off the set and power it back on to restore it back to normal.

Hitachi usually doesn't put discrete codes in their equipment, and I doubt I'll find anything new, but I'll give those device codes a shot.

Hey Rob and Gerard,

Thanks for the advice and your great websites. Sorry to inform you Rob that your test failed. The 1994 does not transmit RF signals. Ok, after some more playing around, I've figured out that on the 1995, you can only program the "theater mode" to play macros on the Power, Audio and Video keys. In any other device mode you can program a macro on ANY key (other than the keys you cannot normally program anything on) as you both have stated. I'm going to write up a list of differences between the 1994 and 1995 and send them to you Rob and I'll post them in this Forum. One weird difference between the 1994 and 1995 is that when programming a macro to power on/off devices the macro plays slower than if you just programming various buttons (ie., switching the tv/video mode on your TV and then switching to DVD and having the DVD play.) However, I've worked around this by programming the actual Advanced Codes for my individual device's power buttons into the macro rather than hitting the device key and then the individual power buttons. The downside to this is that you can't program too many codes (and therefore devices) into the macro. It seems that programming the macro using the advanced codes takes up more memory than if you program it manually. For instance, I have three devices (AMP, TV, VCR) that I power on whenever I want to watch television. I leave my Cable box on all the time which means I don't have to waste memory programming it into the macro. I don't have it turn on my DVD because I don't use it THAT frequently. In order to allow the macro to play at the fast speed, I programmed the advanced codes for the tv and vcr power buttons into the macro and then copied the power key of my amp to an unused key and used that key in my macro to power on the amp. For some reason, this allowed the macro to play fast rather than pausing between executing each programmed function.

If you don't have too many keys that you have to learn onto your remote, I definitely recommend the 1995 over the 1994. I've been able to program almost everything I could possibly want into the 1995 (including the A/B switch, thanks again Rob). There were a very few additional functions that I would have programmed had I had the memory but these were really inconsequential and would be used at most probably once a year. Obviously, the remote would have been as close to perfect as I've seen if it was also learning. But like I said, I was able to get everything I needed programmed in. (Obviously, if you have Replay TV or something else that doesn't use a code, you don't want the 1995 because of the limited memory compared to the 1994). Anyway, I have found a few cool advanced codes and other little tricks that I'll share when I have a little more time.
