I have a old URC-6XXX OFA control. I heard it's possbile to control it by an optional cable. Does anyone know where can I buy the cable or find the specification?

I've looked into this and got nothing. If you get a PC/Mac talking to a OFA please post it. thanks.

Well I did get something from it. And here is what I got, a link to another page that tells you how to buy or make a cable:

Just as advanced warning to anyone with a newish OFA remote, you cannot do this with your remote. The connectors in the battery case cannot be used for any useful function by the user.

Dan,

Is it as simple as counting the connector terminals? The new ones have six and the old have three from what I can see.

Marty... Yes. If there are six, no PC connecting. If there are three, maybe.

However, just because no one has figured out how to talk to a 6-pin remote, doesn't mean it can't be done. Daniel wrote once that he saw two 6-pin remotes plugged into a common "black box" which copied programming from one to the other.

That 6-pin jack is there for a reason. Now we just need some clever EE cracker to figure it out.

Consider yourselves challenged.

Dave is right, UEIC has a black box that connects the remotes to a PC and they can then customize them. Obviously, they have custom software to do this, which we lack. How tricky would it be to figure it all out, I have no idea, it's not something I know anything about, but it is possible.

I have an old manual for programming using the old 3 pin connectors which I intend to scan in and put on the web site in the next few days. It might give some insight to the would-be hacker.

I would dearly love to be able to hook up my remote to the PC and add codes, etc. Especially as my Radio Shack remote is not upgradeable by UEIC as they don't "own" it. Radio Shack would need to establish an upgrade program with UEIC for us to be able to send these puppies in.

Maybe I need to post something on the Apex DVD forum, there's hackers galore over there!
