I have a Series 2 Samsung SIR-S4120R DirecTV receiver with TiVo that I want to put on Craigslist but first I want to reset it. I don't have DirecTV service now and my TiVo is a Roamio. The Sammy is working fine and I saved a few movies that were recorded to a DVR.

The thing is, I don't have the OEM Sammy remote (it was an open-box model) and I used a One For All universal remote, either the URC-6131nw or URC-8910. I used to have an old DirecTV peanut remote but that is now gone. I plan to sell the URC-6131nw with the Sammy.

Are there any codes that I can use with either OFA remote for the 3 thumbs down Reset command? Can the 6131 learn the thumbs down from my current Roamio peanut remote?

The Roamio remote comes in RF mode, there is a way of switching it to IR, directions are somewhere on Tivocommunity, but 6131nw is not a learning remote.

The advanced codes for Thumbs UP is 247 and Thumbs Down, 245. Using PVR code 0618 or SAT 1142:

To map them to a key on 6131nw:

1. PVR or SAT
2. press and hold SET for two blinks
3. enter 9 9 4
4. tap SET for one blink
5. enter 247
6. pick a key

Repeat for advanced code 245.

Edmund,

Thanks for the help but my 6131nw is not accepting either PVR-0618 or SAT-1142. Perhaps those codes are transposed b/c in my 6131nw Owner's Manual I wrote 1142 in the "PVR" section and that seemed to work at the time (almost 10 years ago).

I have tried entering both codes but never get the final 2 blink LED confirmation. This is how I am entering the code:

1. Press PVR device key once
2. Press & hold SET until the LED blinks twice, then release
3. Enter 1142 - the LED blinks once for 1-1-4 and a little longer for 2 but I never get the final 2 blinks - I get the same result, i.e. no final 2 blinks, when entering 0618 with PVR - same thing if I select the CBL/SAT device key and use either 1142 or 0618.

Since my DirecTV account is now closed I'm not too concerned about resetting it but I would like to give the new owner a remote that will control the Sammy.

I would reset the OFA remote:

1. press and hold SET, for two blinks
2. enter 9 8 1

You probably find that 0618 is preset to the PVR device already. And that thumbs commands are already on red and green keys.

I have reset the 6131nw as you suggested (note: I DO get the final 2 blinks after this).

Still not getting the final 2 blink LED confirmation for PVR > 0618. Am I supposed to push another button after 0618? Could the remote be dead?

As a test I have tried programming it for my Samsung UN46C8000 TV using these codes from the 6131nw manual but don't get the final 2 blinks:

0060
0030
0178
0019
0056
0032
0702
0766

I have given up on the 6131nw. It finally "took" PVR-0618 but the keys took a lot of pressure to respond, if at all. Buh-bye.

I'm now trying the URC-8910. The up and down and select works but I need to map Thumbs Up & Down.

I found the 8910 manual online and page 24 says to Press & hold SET, then press the "M" key 7 times. Which is the "M" key? I tried pressing M1 but always get Invalid.

Thanks a bunch for your invaluable help!

If you want to know how to map advanced code into the 8910:

•Press and hold SETUP until the screen reads 'CODE SET'.
•Scroll down to 'KEY MOVER', hit SELECT.
•The screen will read 'FROM MODE'
•Press the device button the code is coming from
•The screen will read 'FROM KEY'
•Press SETUP (don't hold it)
•The screen will read 'SYNT'
•Enter the 3 digit code, then press SELECT
•The screen will read 'TO MODE'
•Press the device button the code is going to
•The screen will read 'TO KEY'
•Press the button to be assigned
•The screen will read 'SUCCESS'

That worked - finally.
Thanks, Edmund!
