OK so I have spent 3 late nights reading on this with no answers or responses. I have a 1994 remote that I need to understand. No code exists for my phillips dvr, & it can't just learn all the buttons. 1) I cant find any advanced codes but dont figure they will help since no codes exist for dvr's. 2)what are my other options before the JP1 step? I am new to this forum & I know how newbs are tolerated (or not) on the many other forums I am on. I am truly putting in the search time but just cant get going......................please help Obiwan

1) All of the Philips DVD players and recorders that we know about use the RC6 IR Protocol. Recorders tend to use device 48 or 50, while players tend to use device 4. They all use the same function numbers. The 1994 remote only has one setup code for RC6 and that is Video 0539 (device 4). Make sure you try this setup code.
2) You can buy/build a JP1 cable, but I would consider simply buying a new remote. For $20, you can get a RCA RCRP05B at Walgreens, Best Buy, etc. and use setup codes Video 0646 (device 48) or 1340 (device 50). Newer remotes have more memory and many more setup codes.
3) What model number DVR do you have? Maybe we can find the device number. If it is 48, a large number of remote models are possible.
