My remote is a URC-9800B01 Home Producer 8 IR/RF 8-Device Learning Remote with RF Command Center.

My guess is it was made around 1999, as that is when the manual was copyrighted.

As of the last time I used the remote four years ago, the IR Learning function worked fine.  Since then the remote has been packed away without batteries.  Just recently, I pulled it out and tried all the keys and features.  Everything except the IR Learning function works fine.  (The keypad light does not work either, however I expect that and it is not important to me).

The "computer" seems confused as to the whole learning part of the remote.  If I attempt to delete KEY/MODE, which is one key only, it will blink the light but will not say "DELETED".  When I attempt to learn, it will enter the sub-menus OK, but will not start flashing the light rapidly at the point which it is supposed to be "learning" the signal from the other remote.  Instead, it will do nothing at all.

The keypad contacts are verified to be fine, because pressing any of the 1L-6L keys will "wake" the display after it has gone blank.

Is there any way the revive or jolt this function back to working?  I realize anything may be a long shot.  I'm open to drastic measures such as hitting, heat, electric shock, etc.

It would be a shame to discard this remote.  I still like the way it rests in my hand better than my 2005 Radio Shack 8-device remote.

Thank you in advance for any tips.

Sincerely,

RedneckBubba19

I have been told it has a bad EPROM.

I'll be back if I have anything else to post about.
