Hello All,

I just got a Kameleon 8 remote, and I'm tyring to set it up using the code library. The listed codes do not cover all the functions of the OEM remotes, etc.

Now on my Comcast & Atlas remotes I'm able to enter all the EFCs I need to completely duplicate the OEM remotes. Now I know the Kameleon can "learn", but I almost think it is quicker to enter EFCs.

Does anyone know of a way to enter EFCs for this remote?

BTW, I only bought this remote as I thought it would be more "user friendly" for the family's use. I think I was wrong! I do not see anything about this remote that looks like it will be easier than the current programmed Comcast & Atlas remotes!

The 9960 is a very old remote, and it uses 3 digit EFCs. You can easily see that in the Lookup Tool when you select UTC-9960 as the remote model. So for a IR protocol like NEC1, which only uses 8 bits of data, you can enter EFCs.  A protocol like Sony Combo needs 16 bits of data, and you need a remote that accepts 5 digit EFCs.

The 9960 is a JP1 remote, and requires a different cable (or the recently available adapter) than the Atlas or Comcast remotes.

The 9960b00 takes 3 digit efc's, where the 9960b01 takes 5 digit efc's.

Thank you to all of you. At this point, I'm not sure what I want to do with this remote! What a waste of $$!

I'll try the methods suggested for EFC entry, and see how it goes. My problem is the Sony codes as 3FG referenced. This could be a deal killer for this remote, as my Sony HTIB is the issue here.

I didn't realize how old this remote actually was. I assumed the review on this forum was more recent. I have a feeling this remote will end up as a "TV" only remote for the family. Even that will require some work, I see that the preprogrammed codes don't map to the correct "buttons" (not sure what you call them on this remote!).

Overall I can say that this is not a $100.00 remote! I did read all the "favorable" reviews, but it's not working out for me this way. I'm surprised at the limited number of macros on this remote, and I "assumed" the activity keys could be given a macros function.
