I've been looking for codes that will allow the One for All to operate the U-verse set top box. Is this possible.

The codes in the One for All manual refer to cable boxes and don't seem to have any impact on the Motorola VIP 1200 set-top box.

Almost ready to give up. Thanks.

There is a file for the VIP 1200 at hifi-remote.com. It takes Nokia32 protocol, device number 37.0.38.

According to the Lookup Tool there, no UEI made remote has a setup code for that device number. So you'd need a JP1.x cable to download an upgrade for the VIP 1200 to the remote, unless you have a modem upgradeable remote.

Thanks, that's a great lead. I don't see that my low-end UEI remote has jp1 capability, so perhaps it's best to return it.

At that point, I could either get an All for One with Jp1 capability.

Or, perhaps even better, is there another remote that you'd recommend that comes ready to use the Nokie 32 protocol?

Thanks again.

I believe that UEI made remotes are the only ones for which the details of the IR signals are known. So I can't point you at any other remote. If you do plan to get a JP1 capable remote, the OneForAll URC-8820N, 10820N, and RCA RCRP05B are the newest and most capable. The RCA is the most readily available--$20 at Best Buy. It has 5 device buttons, although internally there are actually 8 devices, accessible with the JP1 cable. The 8820N has 8 device buttons, but 10 internal devices. Make sure you get 8820N, not 8820B01--it looks the same, but has an older set of setup codes.

I have to ask the obvious here. I assume you have a working uverse remote or could easily get one from at&t, right? So you could just teach the commands to any learning universal, including the ones recommended by 3FG above. Then you wouldn't need a cable.

Yes, I have a working U-verse remote. So it sounds like getting a learning universal remote and using the U-verse remote to "teach" it will be the simplest way to consolidate remotes while still using U-verse. Thanks to you both for getting me started.
