I just purchased a Sony SLV-D370P DVD/VCR Combo and my old faithful Radio Shack 15-2116 8-in-1 remote won't control it.

No codes are listed for combos, I tried all of the DVD and VCR codes separately, and searched both of those, to no avail. Nothing seems to connect. I called RS and was told that the 2116 wouldn't work with combos and they suggested the 15-2146 as a replacement. [I tried the code, 0864 listed for Sony DVD/VCR in the 2146 manual which I found online, but that didn't work in the 2116.]

Any suggestions on things to try?

Comments on the 2146? [I control Sony HD TV, Scientific Atlanta cable box, and Yamaha receiver in addition to the combo.]

Any other suggestions for replacement remotes, under $50 or so, with learning?

Thanks.

Unless you get into jp1, load the upgrade yourself, there isn't anything else you can do but replace the remote. Other remotes with code dvd 0864 on board include the 6820, 8820, 10820 and 6690.

Try this link, and consider the One For All URC 8910. I think it's $20 plus $4 shipping. It's a great support forum, someone there may even be able to get your old remote to work.

A JP1 cable works with the 15-2116. So there is no point switching to an 8910.

A JP1 cable would be a much more sensible purchase than a new remote.

I have a 15-2146 remote and although it seems to always be degraded on this forum, I can assure you that it's a very capable remote.

If it has all of the codes for the equipment you own, it has a very large amount of learning memory for filling in the functions that are not included in the device code.

I, and others on this forum have never ran this remote out of memory and it has the best Key layout for Satellite functions I've ever seen.

It is not JP1 capable, but you didn't show any interest in that so maybe it would be a good remote for you. At least you can buy it locally and play with it for 30 days to see if it will do what you want, and if it doesn't work out you can return it and it wont cost you a thing to try.

I can tell you that the 0864 code does not work well with the Sony slv-d370p combo.
My mom is trying to use the 'easiest' remote, so she has been using a RS 15-2147.
she has the same sony combo you do. The only code that does anything to it, is the 0864. that allows power, a/b input, play and ffwd. nothing works for moving around a DVD menu that you usually use arrows for. that pretty much makes it useless.

The commands missing can be added via advanced codes, these Advanced codes.

Thanks to all who answered my post, but particularly to Jack, irs009.

I decided to give the RS 15-2146 a try, for many of the reasons Jack stated. I agree with his assessment: For my needs, it works just fine, and the layout is almost perfect. It does have the codes I needed, and I ended up having to learn about 10 keys to get it how I wanted. I didn't like the tiny, and poorly placed TV/VCR key and ended up learning to the Live TV key since I don't have PIP or PVR. Otherwise, learned keys are pretty logical.

Thanks again.

I forgot to add:

The remote that comes with the Sony SLV-D370P Combo has got to be the worst remote I have had! Terrible layout, small buttons. The same person must have laid out the remote that programmed the VCR Programming menu! I like the unit so far in spite of those shortcomings.

Hi,
I'd actually like to get the remote that comes with the Sony SLV D370P. Are you interested in parting with yours?
