Hello,

I received a new cable decoder called Freebox High Definition, from the french Free company. Its remote is lagging, and besides i would like to use my URC-8550 to manage my homecinema system (which i did with my previous, non-HD Freebox).

There are still no known codes for that cable decoder. However, some people with iPronto remote are decoding IR commands of this new freebox. Here are some examples :

With Pronto IR Tool, I could have some informations about this codes, but not enough for programming my URC-8550.
What is this cable converter made from ?
Which similar device code could be entered in my remote ?

Please, any help would be appreciated !
Sincerely,

JR Viallat

If the was the JP1 modified version of IrTool.exe used with a recent version of DecodeIr.dll you got a decode of Nokia32 protocol, device 32.101, X=102.

So far as I can tell from Rob's devices.xls file, the 8550 doesn't include ANY setup code code for Nokia32 protocol, and no models listed by devices.xls contain a setup code for device 32.101 in Nokia32 protocol.

I don't recall whether upgrades are available from the manufacturer for the 8850. I think the 8550 is JP1 compatible (not certain) which would mean you could contruct an upgrade yourself with JP1 software and install it via JP1 cable.

Which similar device code could be entered in
my remote ?

In case I was unclear above, I'm pretty sure there is no "similar" device code in the 8550.

Thank you, Johnsfine, for your answer !
I am afraid I will have to change my remote !
But could you give me an example of 32.101 device ?
Sincerely,

JR Viallat

I have no idea what you mean by "example".

Each IR signal encodes several numbers. Two of those numbers that are the same in each of your Pronto Hex samples are 32 and 101.

Another number encoded in the signal is different for each function and thus encodes the function.

We use the name "device" to refer to most encoded numbers that are the same across all signals for a given device. If a different number were encoded there your device would ignore the whole signal.

Maybe said in other words : is there any device (e.g. DVD drive) of any company (e.g. Yamaha) known to respond to all (or part) of the IR codes I gave as samples ?
Then I could enter the OFA code of this device in my remote, and maybe it might drive this Freebox HD cablebox ..
Am I dreaming ? (edit: I do, since I did not take in account your information according to which my remote doesn't include ANY setup code code for Nokia32 protocol...)
Sincerely,

Sorry for coming late to this thread. The URC-8550 is indeed a JP1 compatible remote, plus it has a modem onboard, so you don't even need a cable to add upgrades.

Assuming that you haven't got rid of the remote already, if you were to post Pronto samples of all of the buttons, somebody could create a WAV file that you could load into the URC-8550 by playing it over your PC speakers.

However, I don't know which protocol Nokia32 is. I'm assuming from John's reply that it's not present in the URC-8550 so it would need to be added as an upgrade. There is a size limit for upgrades in this remote and I don't know how big the Nokia32 executor is, so it's possible that it won't fit.

Thank you, Robman for your your suggestion.
I did not throw away my OFA remote (and I won't), but I already ordered a Harmony 525 (520 in US). This one has learning capabilities , which I hope will solve my problem !
Johnsfine and Robman, I deeply appreciated your commitment.
Sincerely,

Hello,

As I said previously, I am trying to use my URC-8550 to control my freebox-hd cable box.
I received informations from OFA hotline, saying that the freebox cable box can be controlled by cable code 1976 and/or video code 0219. However, they explained me that I have to send my remote to OFA in order to upgrade it ! (using JP1).
They said that a simple .wav file is not enough.
Any help would be great !
sincerely,

JR Viallat

I was hoping Rob would answer and explain that (he knows a bit more about OFA proceedures than I know).

I didn't think they called JP1 "JP1" nor told customers about it in any form.

In a remote with a modem I didn't think there was any upgrade they could install by JP1 that they can't install by modem.

Sometimes they replace a remote sent in for upgrade with a "better" model, when they aren't able to upgrade it. Maybe that is what they meant.

Rob also might know (I don't) about the Nokia32 protocol executor for the chip that is in the 8550. Is there such an executor? I don't know the details of the size limit for 8550 upgrades, but maybe there is a problem fitting it.

Rob, if you've forgotten which UEI official executor is Nokia32, look at the JP1 upgrade at
[Link: hifi-remote.com]
That includes the UEI official executor for Nokia32 for URC-7541 (S3C8+).
