I have a Samsung DVD-V4600 dvd/vcr combo player, and the RS 15-2142 Family 4in1 remote.

The two DVD setup codes that the player seems to respond to are 0820 and 1075. Unfortunately, the player plays all widescreen movies stretched to fullscreen, and the only way to change it (according to samsungs manual) is through the dvd player's setup menu. The problem is, the radio shack remote control does not have a setup menu button, I've tried pressing them all. I have also tried pressing the P button and then 6 8 3 (I followed these 2 guides: [Link: hifi-remote.com] and [Link: hifi-remote.com] ) as a discrete or advanced code and nothing...

The player does not respond to this 'manual' code input, am I doing it wrong?

Bottom line is, is there any way to get into the DVD player's setup menu using this remote?

I really appreciate any advice.

The 2142 only takes 5 digit advanced codes, so you need to add two zeroes to the FRONT of any 3 digit advanced codes you may find. So 683 will 00683.

I think that is correct within the context of this thread. But in case people reading this read too much into that statement:

I believe some setup codes require 5 digit advanced codes that are not constructed by adding two zeroes to the FRONT of a 3 digit advanced code. They are constructed by a much more complex process that has been discussed in the JP1 forum.

Most setup codes requiring the more complex 5 digit advanced codes would not have any 3 digit advanced codes posted anywhere for older model OFA remotes. So setup codes that do have 3 digit advanced codes posted and don't follow the "prepend two zeroes" rule, should be quite rare. But I think there are a few.

I'm pretty sure 0820 is NOT one of the rare setup codes in which that simple rule fails. It is an ordinary setup codes for which the simple rule should work. My data on 1075 in the 15-2142 isn't quite as clear, but for that one I'll assume Edmund knows what he is talking about.

i think i actually tried adding 2 zeroes because the remote was unresponsive for 5 clicks, not just 3, and it didnt work, but i'll try it again

also, what does it mean when both ENTER and SETUP have the same 3 digit code??

update: the player is responsive to some codes, such as play/pause for example, but if you look at the list at the link i posted in my first post, the code that is the same for enter and setup (00683) doesnt really do anything ever..

is there any other code that might emulate that elusive MENU button from the original samsung remote?

Because Samsung is quite consistent across models for the EFC numbers of basic functions.

But they're not consistent about special functions.

the code that is the same for enter and setup
(00683)

I don't know whether that indicates there were two different models, one of which had 683 for enter and the other had it for setup, or whether it indicates one model used the same command for enter and setup. Either way it doesn't seem to match your model.

is there any other code that might emulate that
elusive MENU button from the original samsung
remote?

I looked in a CCF file for the Samsung DVD SV-DVD1E and found:

EFC - Function
104 - Setup
250 - Menu
171 - OK
153 - Return

Note that adding 256 or 512 to EFC doesn't change the meaning.

So the "250 - Menu" I found is the same as the "506 - Disc Menu" you had on that other list, and the "171 - OK" I found is the 683 you found.

I also have a Samsung DVD V-4600 (circa 2004) and a Sharp Aquos TV. In the Sharp manual, it says the remote control code numbers for a Samsung DVD are 07 and 12. For a Samsung VCR it says 23 and 31. Since these didn't work, I tried 0820 and 1075 as suggested by qda above. These didn't work. I even tried adding zeros. Any suggestions?

macbriggo,
This site is organized mostly by remote type. While this thread does discuss the Samsung DVD, it is focussed on remotes made by Universal Electronics. So the codes listed in this thread have no relationship to codes for a Sharp remote.

You may have better luck posting the Original Equipment Remote forum.
