I'm ready to buy two 9910 remotes as a cheap alternative to IR distribution. I'm planning on using them at different locations and installing the RF receivers at a third location where all my gear is. I'm guessing that the RF frequencies are unique and that this setup should work just fine but I would like to confirm that. Thanks.

Yes, they will both communicate with the same RF basestation, if it can reach it. : )

Installing both RF receivers at the same third location?

Try to make sure their IR does not overlap.

What do you mean by "unique"?

The RF frequency and other aspects of the RF signal are not just the same across units of the same OFA model, but also the same across other models of OFA and Radio Shack remotes. The RF signal sent by any one of these remotes is received by all of the receivers.

Usually it isn't a problem. But if two people press buttons at the same time the RF will interfere. And if you have two devices using the same IR code set, you can't distinguish them by RF receiver (as you could with some much more expensive systems for distribution of IR over RF).

OK, I think I get this. The reason I was going to put both receivers at the same location is because I was thinking that they would work on different frequencies (like garage openers or cordless phones) so that there is no RF interference from neighbours but I guess that wouldn't make too much sense. So, if my neighbour has the same remote he can change my channels, right?... unless you can use attenuators.

Anyways, that's not the issue. I guess the answer is that I can use 2 remotes with one receiver and the receiver won't know the difference as long as commands are not sent at the same time from both units. I realize that I cannot differentiate between gear with same IR codes but in my case I can play with Remote Addresses on the Echostar equipment. Finding a JP1 set of commands for Echostar remote address 2 for example may prove difficult, I'll see.

Thanks again.

You can call and have SAT code 1170 loaded over the phone, its for address #2. 1171 is for #3.
