Hi gurus,

I have a K|I|S|S DP558 network enabled harddisk recorder ( http://www.kiss-technology.com ) . Now I plan to buy a OneForAll remote, but i'm still in doubt which one to buy. On the MPEG-Playcenter forum ( [Link: mpeg-playcenter.com] ) I've read that the URC-8210/8206 does not support the DP558, but that the first generation 8060 does support the DP558!! Can anybody tell me if the 8210/8206 should or will support the DP558 in the future? And if there maybe are technical limitations why the 8210/8206 cannot support the DP558? The K|I|S|S DP558 uses the protocol RC-5 device 29 (so I've been told).

grtnx,
Daniel

I don't know anything about the 8210/8206, but maybe the following info will help someone else answer you.

The setup code for RC-5 device 29 is DVD/0713, so if you were told correctly about RC-5 device 29, that it the setup code you need. It is built-in on the 8060 (and the 7562).

Most OFA remotes are upgradeable either by .wav file or by sending the remote in. For European model OFA remotes that allow .wav file upgrades you can get the .wav files over the internet. It helps to know the setup code type and number (which I gave above). For USA models that allow .wav file upgrade, you need to get the .wav file by telephone (that's a policy based restriction, not a technology based restriction).

I expect someone in this forum can tell you whether/how upgrades are available for the 8210/8206 (and whether your other source was correct that they don't have DVD/0713 built-in).

The code John refers to (DVD/0713) is in:
URC-3440
URC-7562 B01
URC-8060
Dreambox V2
Dreambox Keyboard

according to the best information I have.

The 8210/8206 both have a built in modem, so you shouldn't have a problem downloading the file and upgrading.

I've never logged in to the web site that I think has those downloads (.wav files you can use to install an extra setup code on your 8206), but I think the right place is:
http://www.oneforall-int.com/
Then select product support
Then Universal remote controls
Then the model you have
Then Internet Download
Then First Time User
Then fill in a bunch of info that I think I'd need to lie about in order to get access to download upgrades for some European OFA remote that I don't actually own, so I've never gone past that point.

Well thanks for your help so far! I almost sure that I am going to buy the URC-8206 this weekend. When I have the remote I will try to download the wav and see what happens...

I'll post my experiences in this thread.

Daniel

Well, it's already some time ago, but here I am again.

In short: IT WORKS :-)

I bought a URC-8206 instead of a 8210 (6 is enough for me and the 10 version was not available in my hometown shop). My TV and amplifier were no problem, but my SAT decoder and K|I|S|S DP 558 were not recognized by the 8206. After a phone call to the AllForOne helpdesk all problems were solved :-) They downloaded the codes via the phone and now I can control all machines with the Kameleon. It seemed that the DP558 was very new to them. They were still busy creating audio files for the support department, but now it should be no problem any more.

greetz,
Daniel

Dawo,

could you please get in contact with me by sending me an email to luisaguilarmateo (at) gmail.com?

I also own a KISS DP-558 and I am thinking about buying the URC-8206, but I thought it was not going to work.

I would be very grateful if you tell me the steps you took to make it work.

Thanks,

Luis
