i just bought a new RS 15-2146 for $20.00 (it's not a kameleon). i'm new to this whole universal remote thing. it's a 6-in-one & i have it running my tv(old Sony Trinitron), an Adelphia (Motorola) digi-cable box, an old Pioneer VSX 5300 receiver, a newer Philips DVD750VR dvd/vcr combo, and an old Yamaha CDC 835 cd changer. The codes in the manual enable it to handle most basic functions & it does everything on the cable box, but there's a few functions it's not doing that I wish it were: I can't get it to turn the yamaha cd player on & off & more irritatingly,it treats the cd player like a single disc unit - it won't skip to the next disc even though it has an ADV button which the manual says should perform that function. It won't tune/channel scan the receiver, adjust balance, volume, or engage surround, though it will power up, mute & cycle through the input modes. The learning function seems to work very well, but unfortunately I don't have the original remotes for the Pioneer receiver & the Yamaha CD changer. The code in the manual for the Philips combo player didn't work, but when I programmed the VCR & DVD buttons separately using codes for individual units, it seems to work, though it'd be cooler if they were both on the same device key. I'm wondering if these components are just too old. Any comments would be helpful.
thanks,
mpbp

mpbp,
Could you please give the setup codes that you are using for the Yamaha CD changer and the Pioneer receiver?
And are you sure you have the model number of the remote correct?

jim,
thanks for the reply. the model # for the remote is correct - 15-2146 (that's from the manual cover, as well as the back of the remote. i called the RS help line & they gave me some new codes & e-mailed me some advanced function codes (which i don't really understand how to use!) - i'm now using 0080 for the pioneer receiver and i can now do pretty much everything i want with that component except adjust volume. (my girlfriend got the receiver from her dad & she says she didn't remember being able to control the volume with the original remote either, although when i press the volume up or down key on the remote, the red position light on the big volume knob blinks - go figure. as far as the yamaha cd changer goes, i'm now using 0036 and can finally shuffle through discs, but i still can't power on or off the cd changer with the remote. also, i can now open the carousel with the remote, but when i do it stops the disc that's playing, whereas when you open the carousel manually, it engages the playXchange feature so you can change a cd while still playing another. any ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks again,
michael.

Make sure the TAPE monitor is off on the receiver. If nothing is plugged into the Tape input and its ON, it'll just seem like the Vol doesn't work.

tape mon is definitely off. curiously, i've discovered that i can control volume on the cd player (didn't know cd players had their own volume controls!) but that of course doesn't help me with any other inputs running through the receiver.

I tried using the 0080 on my pioneer receiver, there aren't any vol commands with that code. the TV vol is punched through, even after unlocking the AUD device, the TV commands are still there. Meaning there are no Vol commands with that setup code. Try codes 0013 or 1023.
