Only if they have the 15-2116 or 2117. The kameleons are JP1 also.

edmund,
Would you post pics of the 10820 when you get it? I have searched all over the web for a good pic of the front, but can't find one.
Also, are either the 8820 or the 10820 backlit?
Thanks.
Jim

What's the difference between the 15-2116 and 15-2117? Do either have the JP1 jack already?

Thanks again.

There's a crude picture of the 10820 on oneforall's site:

I suspect since it's a new remote, they want to keep it's design from being so easily copied by the competition.

The diffference is the 2117 is RF, probably won't be able to find the 2117 since was on clearance awhile ago. They are both jp1out of the box.

I don't have a place to host a picture now. The 8820 isn't backlit, I doubt 10820 is either, it's the black keys.

Here is a link to AVS (this is the canada distributor for OFA)

No, they are not backlit.

Thats what I want to find out. I have two similar
looking remotes here, the urc-6131nw & 8820, they
have nothing in common with each other except
for looks.

The 6131nw is the same remote as the previous 6131. OFA just used the new look of the 8820, and 6820 for this remote. Marketing purposes i guess. On the plus side, the 6131nw is still JP1 compatible.

edmund,
Thanks! It was nearly impossible to find a decent pic before these.

It certainly appears that OFA is going away from the backlighting, given that their new 8 and 10 device lineup has none. Boy, would that suck.

Thanks again.

I have never used the backlight on any my universals. The 10820 takes 4 AAA batteries, where the 8820 only 2.

I picked up the 8910 at Best Buy yesterday. Nice remote, but it took awhile to get used to programming it after using Cinema and 6012 remotes.

Any of you using this remote have recommendations on programming strategies? My 6012 used an extender to move the shift button the the Home Theater button, then macros to turn on all the devices for whatever source I wanted to watch.. Those macros were on the shifted device keys. Does the 8910 have any more memory than the 6012?

I've got:
1) Pioneer 12 disk CD player
2) Hughes DirecTIVO SAT receiver
3) Sony Receiver/amp
4) Sanyo 30" HDTV
5) JVC SVHS VCR
6) Go-Video 8mm/VHS VCR on CBL device
7) CyberHome DVD655 with HDMI output
8) X10 lighting on AUX device

I use a SIMA A/V switch to detect and route audio from all the non-digital sources to one input on my amp. DVD, SAT, and HDTV audio goes via SPDIF to the amp. DVD video via HDMI to the TV. All other video through inputs on my amp and output to the TV Video1 input. X10 security cameras feed to the Video2 input of the TV. The SIMA is primarily in there to route DVD, SAT, and the VCR outputs back to both VCR inputs.

If you are proud of your home theater control strategy, please share it with me.

The 8011 has been discontinued. I have 20- 6012's available for cheap, unmodified though. Anyways the 8011 isn't a learning remote, why post in this thread?

Since this old thread seems to have come back to life, I will comment on a few things that were unclear and/or still in progress when discussed earlier in this thread:

The 6820, 8820, and 10820 all have the same internal programming and electronics (except that the 10820 has a regulated 4 battery power supply and the others use 2 batteries without regulation).
In theory that should mean the 10820's performance should remain stable from new batteries all the way to nearly dead batteries, while the 6820 and 8820 may start to lose range or reliability as the batteries get low. But I don't have any testing to back up the theory. I don't think any of these models eat batteries fast enough to worry about.

They all have learning capacity about three times that of the 8910 and other typical JP1 remotes.

The JP1.2 serial port cables (available at about $20) work well. We expect them to have fewer (more likely zero) unit specific voltage issues (such as the JP1 parallel cables have where some remotes with some printer port require experimenting with new or old batteries or other tricks to hit the voltage that works). A 2 battery JP1.2 remote needs slightly better batteries for the cable to work than the weakest that would work the remote. Any batteries from there up to brand new should be fine.

We don't have extenders, etc. yet. But for most purposes a JP1.2 remote will do whatever you wanted a JP1 remote to do.

The JP1.2 cables are NOT as easy to build yourself as JP1 cables. If you want a JP1.2 cable, you'll probably need to buy it.

This (JP1, JP1.2) is still all user supported. UEI (OneForAll) so far as I know, has not paid any attention to JP1 nor included in their new designs any of the features that the success of JP1 shows are important.
