I recently purchased a Malata 806 DVD player. It comes with a lousy remote. I have a URC-6131. I sent it back to 1forAll, and they added 2 Malata codes, but they don't work. The good news is that the remotes I got back have JP1 headers installed. I've ordered a cable from Hovis. Anyone know where I can get the codes for this Malata DVD player?

I checked the easy places and didn't find any info on the Malata 806.

I found that the Malata DVP-520, DVD-N-996 and DAV3600 all use NEC1 protocol, device number 1.

I expect they use it with different command numbering, but I didn't take the time to check that.

I also found that the setup codes DVD/0711 and DVD/0782 are built-in on the 6131 and use NEC1 protocol, device 1.

DVD/0782 looks like a good match for the Malata N996.

If your DVD uses NEC1 protocol with device 1, then even if DVD/0711 or DVD/0782 don't work right, some function of one of those setup codes probably controls some function of your DVD. Any function at all that can be identified that way is a big step toward identifying the whole code set. So try those two setup codes and try all the buttons and see if any do anything.

Which two setup codes did UEI add when they upgraded your 6131? Those may also give us a hint, even if they don't work.

They added code 1159, and it came with code 752. Searching, I could find codes that turned off and on, and some that controlled functions (although on the wrong key). Maybe I can figure out what codes go where and make my own, but that sound difficult. I just ordered a JP1 cable, but there is no matching file on the web that I could find.

They added code 1159,

Unfortunately, I can't find any info on that one. Once you get your JP1 cable, be sure to do an initial "download from remote" and save that to an .ir file to preserve your copy of 1159.

and it came with code 752.

I don't know what you mean by that. Typo for 782?

Searching, I could find codes that turned off
and on, and some that controlled functions (although
on the wrong key).

I don't know what you mean by "searching". If you can tell us the setup code number and key for each key that does anything, and tells us what it does, we can help you figure out the whole code set.

If you used the remote's search process to find those on/off functions, then you can use its blink back process to find the setup code it found (though doing that via JP1 cable is much simpler).

Maybe I can figure out what
codes go where and make my own, but that sound
difficult. I just ordered a JP1 cable,

You can use KeyMoves to piece together a partially working setup from any combination of keys from any combination of setup codes. I forget whether the 6131 is like most OFA models that can do so without JP1 or if it is one of the few that need JP1 for simple KeyMoves.

But we can do much better than that if you tell us which setup_code/key does what. We have outside sources of data that can be used together with that info.

Thanks for your help. Yes, I meant that when I searched for codes on the remote, I found some pre-built codes that turned the dvd player on and off, and some buttons were recognized, but the button assignments were not right. I'll have to use the blinkback to figure out what codes worked with what functions and post the information. Is there an easier way after I get JP1? Can I get a learning remote, learn the keys, and then use JP1 to tell me what commands go with which keys?

Much easier.
With a JP1 cable, you can download the eeprom image from the remote. Then the setup page of IR.exe will display the setup code type and number assigned to each device button.

Can
I get a learning remote, learn the keys, and then
use JP1 to tell me what commands go with which
keys?

Sure. Any learning JP1 remote can do that.
IR.EXE can be used with DecodeIr.dll to decode each learned signal in the eeprom image and give its protocol, device and OBC information. The RM or KM program can then be used to create an "upgrade" to encode all that information more effitiently than the learned signal form and in a way that can be loaded into any JP1 remote (including your non learning remote).

I think we can use a litle experimentation and deduction to find all that information without a JP1 learning remote. But much less expertise is required to get that information using a JP1 learning remote.
