my 2nd terk LF-UNIV stick-on ir/rf remote extender just broke - both in the same way. The soldering of the + battery contact to the circuit board wore down and broke because of the pressure put on by the spring used to keep the - contact in place, a definite design flaw. The 2 have lasted me 7 years, but I don't want to go through this again, especially since extra transmitters alone are no longer available - I would have to buy another receiver too, which I surely don't need. Most recently I've been using my extender with a JP-1 enhanced RS 15-2104, and am wondering what would be the best inexpensive ir/rf JP-1 remote to replace this combo. Maybe a urc9910? Is there anything better out there? Also, where to buy? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

There are only two RF UEI remotes currently available, the urc-9910 and the urc-9964. the later a RF version of the kameleon. Most places are sold out of the HT-PRO. If get the 9910, make sure it the newer version without the donut ring, with five separate button cursor pad.

Thanks, Edmund. I assume that HT-PRO is the urc-9964, right? I prefer a remote I can largely operate by feel, instead of having to look at it all the time, so I think I'll pass on the kameleon. However, I tried a urc-8911w(I think), the WM version of the urc-8910, when they first came out and I definitely think my RS 15-2104 (found on clearance for $10:-)) has better button layout for touch use. And yes, I remember the awful donut ring and will definitely avoid it. Wish I would've bought an RS 15-2117 when they were clearanced, however.

The 9964 is the Rf version of the 9960, the kameleon. The HT-PRO's model # is URC-9811. Which dropped in price to $8 a piece, so its been sold out many places.

If you want a reliable RF remote, I wouldn't get a UEI RF remote. I love the features of UEI remotes, but Rf performance suck. I'd go with URC RF remotes like the mx-350 or mx-600. You can find the URC's urc-100 on ebay for about $65. You'll need to buy the MRF-100 RF basestatuion separately though.

I may check into seeing if I can hunt down a urc-9811. My natural inclination because I'm tired and my health is bad is to stay with what I know, so I would prefer to stay with something in the UEI family. One thing I found on the hi-fi remote jp-1 forum is that the new OFA remotes aren't jp-1 compatible(?). Also when I froogled the urc-9910 all the pictures had the infamous donut ring. So I was wondering: can I get both jp-1 and no donut ring, or am I stuck choosing one or the other? Is there any way to tell ahead of time, such as B00 vs. B01 or whatever? I'll look into the URC remotes if I feel up to it, although my needs for RF performance are modest and the expense may be an issue. Thanks again for the suggestions.
