Hello all,
I have just purchased the OFA URC-9910 IR/RF remote and am awaiting shipment. After I ordered the remote, I realized the RF->IR command center needs to face the equipment from across the room in order to broadcast the IR. However, inlcuded in the package is a pigtail for the IR port on the back of the command center. The picture shows a small LED on the end of the pigtail that you stick near the IR receiver on the device to control. I would like to place the command center in the equipment rack and use IR blasters to communicate.

Can I use generic IR blasters with this command center to control multiple devices?

Thanks for any advice. I have not kept up with remote technology and IR blaster products over the last few years.

Probably not. However, you may be surprised. IR signals bounce around pretty well (basically they behave like a light beam and reflect off any shiny surface). I don't know what your layout looks like, but there is good chance some or all of your equipment may respond anyway, even if the command center is in the rack and not aimed directly at it. I've even had success with one of those command centers positioned on a shelf not even in sight of the equipment, by simply aiming it so the IR signal reflected off a window across the room.

So I suggest you give it try. Then if there is particular piece of equipment that doesn't respond, see if you can positon the pigtail LED to handle any just that.

BTW, if your equipment is located in a cabinet behind a door that is usually closed, putting something shiny like a mirror or foil on the inside of the door will also help.
