I just bought an Hitachi 42v515 high-definition projection LCD TV along with a One-For-All 8017 remote (Canadian equivalent of the 8011, I heard).

I programmed the Hitachi controls under "TV" of the 8017, using code 0-1-4-5. Everything works fine except the SELECT button that has no effect at all. For example, I am able to use the INPUT button on the One-for-all 8017 to cycle through the inputs (I see the menu appear on the screen) but I have no way to "confirm" the input I want using SELECT (ENTER doesn't work either).

Can I grab the Hitachi remote and make the 8017 learn the SELECT signal? If I do so, will I screw up the SELECT functionality that I have already set in other modes? (cable box, DVD)

Thanks!

The 8017 doesn't have learning, so you can't learn the signal from the Hitachi.

The 8017 does allow KeyMoves using "EFC numbers" (Also known as Advanced codes).

Hitachi TV's are pretty consistent about their command numbers and there are lists of those in either EFC form or OBC form (which can be translated to EFC) in many places.

The easiest of those places

seems to indicate that EFC number 701 for the select function is normally built-in for the TV/0145 setup code on the Select key. But I have other sources indicating EFC 701 is not on any key of TV/0145 in the URC-8017. So that may be the right code.
