Hi all,

A friend proposes to bring me back the Kameleon - URC 9960 from the US.

I would like to know if this remote is compatible with the FRENCH material ? like CanalSatellite, DVD Philips 737, Vidéo Tape Radiola SB635, TV Toshiba, ...

What is the difference between the URC 9960 (US) and URC 9962 (CANADIAN) ?

Thanks a lot :)

Regards

Nano (from FRANCE)

I'm not certain about those devices, but I think the European Toshiba TV models use the same signals as the USA Toshiba TV models, so those codes are included. I think codes for your other devices are not included.

The 9960 can be upgraded by .wav file, but it may be hard to find out which upgrade you need for those devices, and it may be very hard to get the .wav file (normally USA customer support plays the .wav file directly over the phone into the remote, which may be impractical from France).

It is much easier to identify and install upgrades for the 9960 using a JP1 cable (plus some sort of adapter for the 9960, check a JP1 forum or one of the JP1 cable vendors for the adapter details). That doesn't add too much to the cost and makes it much easier to program the 9960 and get much better results.

The 9962 is the same as the 9960.

Well the good news is that your Philips DVD737 should use the most common Philips DVD code: 0539. Your Radiola VCR *may* respond the U.S. branded Maganvox/Sylvania VCR code 0081, especially if it is an older model. Both of those codes are in the Kameleon.

Also, like Johnsfine says, there is also a good chance your Toshiba TV will answer to one of the codes listed for U.S. models -- but keep in mind that the U.S. specification Kameleon will not have teletext or fasttext keys, if those are important to you.

The bad news though is that none of the codes likely to operate a CanalSat set top box will be found in a U.S. Kamleon. Unfortunately satellite is one of the areas where is there is the least overlap from region to region. So I agree that you will probably need to go the JP1 route to get that code.

Hi,

As it seems that the US version of this remote will not perfectly work in France, would you know when it will be released in France (in a French version) ?

Thanks !
