This is the second generation of the kameleon. I bought one tp try to make my Philips DVD 952 regio code free according to the directions below :

Region code hack posted by bensiu, February 08 2005:
You will need a One-4-All uniwersal remote for this (Send the infra-red code RC6 (aka Codeset 4, Key 235))

Converting the player to Multi-Region:
1. Set up the remote with the code 0, 5, 3, 9.
2. Press the MAGIC button.
3. Press 085. The display should read: '----'.
4. Enter following with the normal Marantz remote: 222 222 005 255.
5. Press ENTER.
6. The player should now be region-free.

To change to a specific region:
1. Set up the remote with the code 0, 5, 3, 9.
2. Press the MAGIC button.
3. Press 085. The display should read: '----'.
4. Enter following with the normal Marantz remote: 222 222 005 255, followed by the region number required.

However it fails already at step 2/3 since my dvd does not react at all (does not give ---- on the display) although I can operate my dvd completely with the kameleon. What am I doing wrong??? Does the sequence "magic button 085" does not generate the RC6 code ??????? Can anyone help me and send me am e-mail at [email protected]

many thanks in advance

The new Kameleons use five digit EFC codes rather than three digit EFC codes.

I never learned the rules for five digit EFC numbers. But several of the other JP1 experts did. It might be as simple as using 00085 instead of 085.

If it isn't that simple, I expect some other JP1 expert will correct me here.

If not, try this forum:

where you may get the attention of slightly more of the people who would know the answer. Be sure to mention that it is DVD/0539, since that may affect the 3-digit EFC to 5-digit EFC conversion method.

Hi.

I am not a JP1 expert but I do know for a fact that if the advance code is 085 and the new remote takes 5 digits, you can punch it in as 00085.
