I own a Samsung HLP5663W tv set and a 6131 remote. The TV initially seemed to work fine using either the 0060 or 0702 codes to program the remote, but I ran into a problem using the arrow keys to navigate menu features on the set.

Both the 0060 and 0702 code sets use the same code set for Volume UP and
DOWN as Arrow LEFT and RIGHT, and the same set for Channel UP and DOWN as
Arrow UP and DOWN. This means that when trying to access the important menu
functions on the 5663W TV, the arrow keys simply change channel or adjust
the volume, which causes the TV to exit menu mode. OFA sent me the advanced codes for these two cofigurations, but I do not see anything in
the 0060 or 0702 codes that would allow me to set up the keys with a
separate scroll function for UP, DOWN, LEFT or RIGHT.

Since the menu allows me to access a lot of frequently used options (like changing aspect ration) I'd really like this resolved. I'm in touch with OFA on this issue, but I was wondering if anyone could suggest a work around.

Thanks,
Chris

If I understand you correctly, the thing you missed is the instructions for assigning an advanced code to a button. Those instructions are not in most OFA documentation. But should have been included when they send you the advanced codes and are given in many threads in this forum.

I failed to find them in a simple search just now, so I'll just retype them rather than figure out a better search.

I forget what the setup key is called on a 6131. It is "Set" or "Magic" or "P" in various models. Whatever it is called, it acts the same.

1) Press the device key (TV I guess) in which you want the advanced code defined.
2) Long press of the "setup" key (whatever it's called).
3) Key in the number 994
4) Short press of the setup key.
5) Key in the 3 digit advanced code number
6) Press the key you want to define with that advanced code (such as up, down, right or left).

Johnsfine, the problem I'm having is that the advance codes they supplied me with are IDENTICAL for the arrow direction keys and the volume/channel keys. For example, for 0702, channel down and arrow down are both 629, arrow left and volume down are both 571, etc. Code 0060 has the same problem. So the codes are only partially compatible with the native remote (where the arrow keys don't perform volume and channel duties.)

So I guess the question is, has anyone encountered this before and hammered out or sampled a code that will redefine these keys?

Rereading the codes they sent, it does appear that I can map a key to aspect ratio without going to the menu, which would alleviate the problem

I'm a newbie, so maybe I'm just missing something obvious. I've tried a variety of "up" and "down" codes to see what they do, but no joy. The codes they sent are below.

Thanks,
Chris

I had the same issue with my hlp4663w. I used device 0060 and assigned all the missing keys using keymoves. Check out AVS forum for additional discussion.

You will find a thread with a post that contains the following link to a spreadsheet with the codes. Beware that some have reported difference depending on the firmware in your set. When I checked mine all but a couple were correct.

Thanks Michael. Much of that was over my head, but I'll keep that site handy for 5663 discussions.

In the meantime, I finally found the "alternate arrow codes" on hifi-remote.com under their version of 0060.
