I just picked up the RS 15-2318 to replace my 4 remotes I currently use. I had no problem programming my Phillips Satelite Receiver and Panasonic DVD player. What I am having trouble with is the Panasonic Audio Receiver (Model # SA-XR10). I have found a code that will let me power the unit but I can not adjust the volume or change the audio input sorce.

Also, My Hitachi TV (Model # 51F500) works with the remote (as far as the channels numbers, volume, etc ... is conserned), however I do not have a button allowing me to change between different Video Inputs (There are 5).

Can anyone help me in these regards or point me in the right direction?

TIA!

Well, I got the problem solved for the most part. My only issue now is that the Volume Keys for the receiver I had to learn (or teach) and I can't hold the volume up or down button down with the volume going up or down. I have to press and depress the volume up or down each time rather then holding it down ...

Does this make sense?

Do you really mean 2318 or do you mean 2138?

I don't know how the generic info I know from other models in this forum applies to the 2138 (for example I don't recall whether it uses 3-digit or 5-digit EFC numbers). Maybe some other expert will help with that.

It's fairly common when learning a long IR signal like Panasonic to have the learning remote fail to see the repeat pattern and thus not know how to reproduce long key presses. You might fix it by relearning more carefully (and be sure to hold the Panasonic key pressed long enough during learning for the 2138 to see the repeat pattern).

But it's usually more effective to use a KeyMove rather than a learned signal.

What setup code did you use to get partial support for that receiver?

There are very standard Vol+ and Vol- commands for Panasonic Audio devices. The setup codes Audio/1308, Audio/1309, and Audio/1518 all have those standard commands. I find it hard to believe your receiver doesn't use the standard vol commands, so maybe you did something wrong in initial testing and you never really needed learned signals or keymoves at all.

Sorry, I meant 2138. And how do I program the volume keys using specific setup codes rather then using learning keys?

The codes I used for the receiver only got the power button to work, nothing else! I had to program all other keys using learning/teaching!

So, how do I set up single buttons using specific codes?

Thanks!

That is possible with KeyMoves. But you'll need someone who knows specifics of the 15-2138 a little better than I do to explain it to you.

BUT you probably don't need to use even KeyMoves for that.

I could be a lot clearer if you had answered my question about which setup code you had used to get power to work for that Receiver.

I had expected it to be one of the three setup codes I listed above, in which case you would have been using the standard vol signals already unless you previously had some KeyMove, learned signal, VPT, or other programming overriding the vol keys. So I thought that maybe all you needed to do was to clear that previous override.

With other complex RS remotes, we've seen plenty of cases where someone bought what he thought was a new remote, but it was really a remote returned by a previous customer who had been confused about how to use it and put in some strange programming (before giving up and returning it). It isn't a good idea to assume a "new" universal from RS doesn't already have some strange overrides programmed in.

The codes I used for the receiver only got the
power button to work,

"codes" ???

There should be one setup code, which is a device type and a four digit number.

To enter an advanced code on the 2138:

1. press device key
2. press and hold P for two blinks
3. press OTHER
4. enter 9-9-4
5. press Device key
6. tap P for one blink
7. enter 3-digit advanced code
8. pick a key

If you want an advanced code from a Setup code that you won't want assigned to a device key, you need to temporarily assign it to a device key.

Any advanced code KeyMove keeps the source setup code it was defined with, evev if the source device button it was defined with is later reprogrammed with a different setup code.

You can do the temporary assignment within the device mode you're working on: change its setup code, do the advanced code as Edmund describes (I think step 5 is unnecessary) , then change the setup code back.

Especially when there is a difference in device type, many people find it less confusing to (temporarily) use a second device mode: Program that other device mode to the setup code, then program the keymove, then program the other device mode back to the setup code it should normally use.

If you do a key move that way (with two device modes) you don't need Edmund's step (1). In Edmund's step (5) you need that helper device mode (the one temporarily programmed to the source setup code) and you need a step between (7) and (8) pressing the device key of the mode you're defining.

Its true you can drop the first step, but tapping the device key in step 5 or 4 if you do drop the first step, is needed!! This is an ALL touchscreen remote, if you don't follow the directions right it won't lead you to the next screen.

Thanks Guys! Great news! Now, where can I find the 3 digit advanced code for the Vol up and Vol down buttons? Any ideas?

You haven't given us a setup code you're using?

There maybe a vol punch-through blocking the VOl commands, so try this:

1. press and hold P for two blinks
2. press VOL LOCK
3. press AUD DEVICE key
4. press VOL DOWN
5. press HOME

To be honest, I don't know which setup code it is as I did the search and it is the only one which would let me use the power button.

Nothing else worked other then some numbers which changed the input!

I learned all the other buttons!

I've already played with the Vol lock and it didn't change anything!

1) I think Edmund (and/or the 15-2138 documentation) can tell you how to get the 15-2138 to "blink back" or otherwise indicate the setup code number it is using.

2) Using a different device key (if you do it before finding that setup code number) program one of the three setup codes I gave you (make sure to first program the Audio device type with a 992 command if you pick a non-Audio device button). Then test several keys including the vol keys to see what works your receiver in that setup code.
