I am having difficulty with my RCA T.V. Original remote is CRK7482 which I can't find info on. I have a remote I believe was purchased at Radio Shack and is a OFA 31xxxb01. I can turn on and off the power and volume controls work but am unable to program the channels. Only these two functions work. What could I be doing wrong? I'm sure I have a stuck key on the RCA that came with the unit. I have cleaned it and it worked for a short while and now out again so I thought I'd use the new remote but having limited success. Any clues? Remote code should be 000.

Are you sure your model number is CRK74*8*2, not CRK74*B*2 ? With a "B" instead of an 8, that is a fairly common RCA remote. Go here to see a picture of a CRK74B2: [Link: replacementremotes.com] .

Unfortunately, if that *is* your remote, this doesn't really solve the problem since it uses a very common RCA code and should correspond to the Radio Shack (and One-for-All) TV set up code 0047. Are you sure that is the code you are using? If so, I wonder if there is something strange about the way your TV set handles channel changing commands? Maybe someone else on the forum has experienced a similar problem and can help.

Yes, this appears to be my remote. Apparently it is no longer available. It supercedes to RCA model CRK74E2 also not available. Fortunately model CRK74F1 is. Does anyone know if these are 3 or 4 digit models? My "UNIVERSAL" model OFA URC-31647b is a 3-digit code. Are these compatable? I've now completely dismantled my RCA model fully and am going to attempt to clean the entire unit per instructions on a do-it-yourself remote repair website. If this doesn't work I'll have to purchase a new unit I guess although I thought that the OFA unit could work. I never have got it to work properly. What "exactly" must I do to defeat this demon if I'm to use the OFA unit or isn't this possible? It's not that I can't afford a new RCA model but now it's personal. I can't let this remote win. Hellllllllp!

If your remote looks like the CRK74E2 then it's a re-badged RCU500. You can download PDF manuals for the various versions of the RCU500 from this RCA.COM link.

However, even if you get your RCA remote back to "good as new" condition, the general opinion around here is that all RCA remotes are a waste of time, so if I were you I wouldn't bother.

It's a much better idea to see if you can get your OFA working, or maybe buy a new OFA.

Hey Mortman,

I think I just figured out your problem with the OFA remote. Me sorry, I should have looked up that model number earlier. The URC 31xxxx is not a full universal, it is "cable" remote intended to be supplied by a cable operator together with their set top box. So the channel changing keys on that unit are NOT universal -- they ALWAYS send cable box codes no matter what. Setting up the TV mode only changes what the volume and power keys send, nothing else.

In other words, the 31xxx is behaving exactly as it is meant to. The fact that you can control volume and power proves that the One-for-All code is correct and that your TV's IR receiver is good. What you need now is a retail model One-for-All that has all the key functions. Radio Shack or WalMart should have what you need, or if you want to go the most flexible route check out what Robman has to offer at www.hifi-remote.com.

On some OFA cable oem remotes, you can enter a code to unlock the 10 key pad from the cable device in all other devices. I don't know that code off hand myself?

Try this:

1. press CBL
2. press and hold SETUP for two blinks
3. enter 9-7-3
4. press CH down once, it should blink 4 times

now try the keys under TV device.
