OK boys and girls, forgive my ignorance because I am a home theater master mx series remote kind of guy, but I have had this 9800 for quite a while (actually had the earlier model as well) and I just learned about the six pin deal under the battery cover, and want to know what are the maximum # of tricks I can do with this puppy, and what are the most common upgrades being done. Basically I would love to be able to tweak it like I tweak my MX-700, can this be done? What is a good starting point, besides getting the software, and cable, and as far as the cable goes which one is best, and I will be making it myself (very technically savvy).

TIA

Trey

You won't be sorry if you try jp1. You will be amazed at how easy it is to things setup. I tried it, with my end goal of getting something like a urc-200. Needless to say, I've not bought another remote and I'll very happy with my 8811. It would be nice to have the lcd showing key's not on the remote like the mx series, but to get computer programmability, it'll cost $180. I'm set for about $40 shipped (8811+jp1 cable). Spend sometime in the jp1 forum and evaluate it for yourself.

Best,
jeff

Depending on how much time you want to spend you can make a JP1 capable remote do almost anything any other universal remote can do. The difficulty is not having labels for the oddball buttons.
