Well the learning function has burned out on both my URC-7800 and it is now time for a new remote. I have been interested in the 8910 but was wondering if it could be programed for DDVD/VCR combo unit? It is a Toshiba unit if that matters at all. Also, how is the battery life? Thank you all for any help, Shuan Legacy

There are no DVD/VCR combo codes listed in the 8910 manual, but the 8910 has a built-in modem, so you can load codes over the phone. I suggest you do a froogle search on google for HT-PRO, the price has dropped alot, lower then you can find the 8910 for, I prefer the HT-PRO over 8910 because of the new 5 key cursor pad on the HT-PRO is backlit, where on the 8910 is a solid silver. Try having code DVD1945 loaded.

Thanks for the help and quick response. Are there any other suggestions for the DVD/ VCR combo remote. I really dislike the one that came with the unit. I'm looking for something along the way of the 8190 and HT-PRO if those don't work. Thank you again.

Both the 8910 & HT-PRO have a learning feature, but only enough memory for 25 commands for the whole remote. This is true for 99% of the remotes dealt with in this forum, OFA/RS forum. I wouldn't have combo if it was given to for free, so I'm done with this subject.

Toshiba is one of the makers that is notorious for TOADs. And they have few if any discrete commands. This makes it very hard to use with any universal remote that is device driven as opposed to the event driven Harmonys.
As far as the combo, they are frustrating even with advanced codes, and when they have limitations like the Toshibas generally do, it makes it downright maddening.

If you have any interest in jp1, that would be the best way to go to get a TOAD TOG function through an extender supported remote. If you aren't interested, then most of the OFAs will have the same (limited) functionality.
