I've searched the forums to find a way to turn off the motion sensor in my Kameleon One for All URC-9960 remote, and found this:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Jeff, I am trying to figure out how to turn off the vib sensor or lower the sen.

1. Press and hold "SetUP" key until IR segments flash twice.
2. Press "Other" once.
3. Using the number keys, enter 985.
4. Press "Home" twice to exit.
Vibration is now OFF.
Jeff
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But it doesn't work for me.
I put the sequence in as described here, but the unit still lights up when I pick it up!!!

Does anyone know why?.. and what I should do to get it to work?

Any help would be appreciated.. Spook8000

See this thread: [Link: remotecentral.com]. It basically says that this seems to work only on the B01 versions.

Thanks for the info,
I was wondering if there is a thread somewhere that further discuss'

How I can determine which version I have, ie b01 etc...
And if anyone knows if there is actually a hardware difference.

Also, I am interested in any technical info regarding the upgradability of these units.. I'd like to know what is updated when the "wav" file is used to upgrade the codes in the unit, and also if there is a way to upgrade the "operating firmware" (if it is a seperate thing to the "ir code database")

Cheers, Spook8000.

Spook,

in answer to your question below:
How I can determine which version I have, ie b01 etc...

The new units have the part number printed on the battery door as URC-9960B01.

Spook,
I think if you are really interested in these things you would get a LOT of information in the jp1 forums. Go to hifi-remote.com and peruse.

Okay, this motion sensor is NUTS. I've had my remote since Thursday and Saturday morning I had to replace the batteries. I have the instructions on how to take the remote apart and either snip a wire or de-solder the sensor and started to try it -- by with my luck, I'll break one or more of the "clips" that hold the remote together. So, I'm not going this route....

Options:

1) Return/exchange the remote. Problem is, the outside packaging gives no indication of the rev of the remote. Or does it (some discrete code ?)

2) Call UEI and complain, complain, complain. If anyone's gotten them to fix it, is this an over-the-phone/modem update or do you have to send it in ??

I might be able to answer the part about the packaging myself. There's a picture at Amazon with their URC9960 listing that shows the "back" of the packaging. On it, it states:

"Ability to de-activate the tilt switch (motion sensor)"

Did you read Post 4 or skip down to the bottom and post? Read through. If your remote doesn't have a rev printed on the battery compartment door, something is wrong.

Give me a break.... I clearly read the entire thread and I *KNOW* that the "9-8-5" code doesn't apply to my remote. That's why I'm exploring the only other options available to non-B01: Cutting the wiring to the sensor, exchanging it for a B01 rev, etc, etc.

I think that I must have misunderstood your post. I thought you couldn't figure out which rev you had with your current remote; now I think you are trying to figure out if you can get the B01 by exchanging. Is this right?

Sorry if I jumped all over you.... I do know which version I have: The WRONG one :-( The full part # is printed (on a sticker, I believe) on the backside of the battery compartment door and it's not B01.

My local Best Buys do have the newer version according to their packaging. I called two stores and asked the people to read the back of the packaging and both read the "ability to disable motion sensor" or similar wording. Look here, [Link: amazon.com], and then click the 2nd image that shows the back of the package.

Problem: I didn't buy the remote from Best Buy and there are moral, if not ethical and legal, issues, about exchanging it there... :-(

I've also e-mailed UEI about this problem (they've actually been reasonably quick at replying). Someone mentioned that it can be "upgraded". Hopefully over the phone, but I doubt I'd get that lucky.
