Hello!

I have a URC-8910 remote that I would like to control my Media Center PC. Does anyone know of a code for the Microsoft Media Center 2005 Remote?

Or do I need to update the 8910? If so, how do I go about doing that.

Thanks in Advance!

Matt

Hi Matt,

The code you need is VCR code 1972.

It is not on the remote but you can call customer support at OFA and get it via the phone.

Thanks civichb!

Thanks for the code! Actually, it wasn't one of the codes customer service suggested, I had to ask for it. It works great, except I had to learn the "green button", guide and info buttons from the original remote.

Custumer service suggested VIDEO code 1272. It worked for all buttons except for the skip forward and back buttons. When I tried to IR learn the codes into the 8910, the buton would only worked once and not repeat. Strange.

So the VCR 1972 code worked best for me. Thanks again!

There is a design feature in the Media center that keeps learned signals from working twice in a row.

For those with universal remotes that are programmed only by learning there is a registry entry you can use to turn that off (so learned signals will work twice in a row).

But if you find you're missing any more functions, I think those Media Center setup codes support EFCs, so you can ask (in this forum or JP1) for the EFC numbers of whatever functions are missing and program them by KeyMove rather than learning. The commands can be used twice in a row when programmed by KeyMove.

Hi! I have a Sony AV3000 and am experiencing the same problem. I was wondering if you could provide me with a source for this "registry fix" ?
thanks

I just tried what you could have done to get the answer faster than asking: I did a forum search for "registry". The first (of many) threads that found was this one
[Link: remotecentral.com]

That gives the original answer for the registry fix.
I also recall that there are some versions of the software where the registry fix has changed. To find the discussions of those, I suggest searching the forum for the keyword "EnableDebounce" which you see in that thread and which would appear in any discussion of what to do for other software versions. In at least one version, MS seems to have just moved EnableDebounce within the registry rather than changed it. So you might also try searching that in RegEdit or Regedt32 rather than the forum.

I don't know whether VCR/1972 is correct.
If so, I don't know whether there are other OFA setup codes for the same device.
I don't know if any of those are built-in on the 8060.

But I do know that the 8060 can get upgrades over the phone from OFA customer support and I know that the Microsoft Media Center is a popular enough device that OFA customer support will know the right setup code to give you in that upgrade.

It is also possible to contruct the upgrade yourself using the free JP1 software. That lets you arrange the mapping of functions to keys however you want, rather than the way someone at OFA thought best fit the key labels of the 8060. Installing an upgrade from JP1 software is easier if you buy a JP1 cable and pogo adapter. But it is possible by .wav file without buying anything. But calling OFA customer support is a lot easier if you just want to get it working rather than perfectly customized.

Use device ID 1272. The missing codes are available via advanced programming options defined below.

1. Find the function you wish to duplicate. The functions should be labeled the same as they appear on the original remote control for your device. The 3-digit number to the left of each function is the code you will likely use (ex. tv setup code 0054 Advanced function code 497 is "Sleep")

2. To use the advanced functions: tap the P button one time, then enter the code for the function you wish to use. For example, on a TV working on code 0054, you would tap P followed by 497 to activate the "Sleep" feature.

3. You may also program some of these functions directly onto the universal remote control. This feature is useful for frequently-used functions that are not already preprogrammed on the remote. To use this feature, just follow the instructions below.

4. After a button has been reprogrammed, you can still access it's original function by tapping the P button first. However, if you need to reset a button on the remote to the original function, just press "P" (wait for two blinks)-9-9-4-BUTTON-BUTTON."

PROGRAMMING EXTENDED FUNCTIONS: (key setup)

1. Tap the DEVICE key
2. Hold down P until the indicator light blinks twice - release
3. Press 9-9-4
4. Tap the P for one blink and release
5. Enter the 3 digit advanced function code (see below)
6. Tap the DESIRED key...the indicator should blink twice
