I just bought a new One For All URC 8910, and when I put the batteries in, the display shows all the characters, and that's it. It stays there for ever, (until you take the batteries out), even overnight. No buttons work, and nothing I tried will do ANYTHING. Did i buy a lemon? Is there a way to fix this...

Yes,there is something wrong the with it, I would take it apart, then put it back together again and see if anything changes.

how would one go about doing that - i took out the 2 screws in the back, to no avail. I am trying to carefully pry the two apart, is this all there is to do? the only other way i have gotten these things apart in the past is by dropping them and cracking the case. Any easier ways?

Well I took it apart, cleaned up the board, and put it back together, and it still does the same damn thing. I guess I'll have to wait until their customer support is open and see if they know what's wrong. Guess buying it on ebay wasn't such a good idea after all :(.

I did notice that the circle thing with copper wire wrapped around it had a lot of glue on it and the surrounding electrode things. Would this cause any problems or is that normal?

No, that's normal, the coil is the modem, they use alot glue instead of solder.

The character thing is supposed to show like that, but it's supposed to clear when you press a button. I was going to suggest that you might have a button trapped, but if you've already opened it and re-built it, that kinda rules out that theory.

Well, I am contacting the ebay seller to see if they will exchange it, or hopefully the customer support for one-for-all will know what's wrong (doubt it).

If they won't exchange it, which remotes are good out there and relatively cheap?

I doubt that it is the problem, but have you tried another set of batteries?

Even though you may have bought a lemon in this case, the remote model is a good one. If you have no need for the LCD screen, a better option might be the URC-8811. I have those available for $19 each. I also have some used URC-8910s available for just $9 each if you're interested.

If you like the LCD screen, take a look at the 15-2116 at Radio Shack, that's quite a popular remote and a steal at $30.

I am interested in possibly a used model, - if the case is bad, i could always use the case from this one. I like the lcd screen, which is one reason i bought it. - do you have these available at your website? http://www.hifi-remote.com I will check it out

Well, I contacted customer service, and a lot of good that did. First they didn't understand what I was talking about, and then just said to return it. So there's the answer folks, return it... :)

I'll be contacting you robman about another remote. You've got mail.
