Is pvd a brand or just part of the model number? If it isn't the brand, what is the brand?

Have you tried the code search process on the remote? Using the JP1 cable is MUCH easier than doing the code search, but if you don't want to wait...

I never heard of that brand. You probably need to use the JP1 cable to decode some learned signals from the portland remote.

Meanwhile, you might as well use learning (up to the learning capacity of the 8810) to control the DVD and to be ready for the next step when the cable gets there.

Most people are misled by the 8810w manual regarding learning. You can actually learn onto almost any button of the 8810, not just the buttons dedicated for learning.

Portland is the house brand for Costco, who knows who actually makes it.

I did a quick web search for pvd-1000 and found something that seems to indicate it's the same as a Daewoo DVG-5200S. But Daewoo isn't consistent in their DVD commands, so this might not tell you much.
