I bought the One For All URC 8810w to control my amp, cd, dvd, vcr and tv.

The problem is when i change the remotes function, the function of the amp does not change... for instance if i select cd on the remote the amp stays on video1 mode ... this is no good at all... I dont see in the instructions how to do this ... Can it be done? If not, is there a remote that can? Seems like it should be able to change the amps function along with the remotes ... thats how my amps remote works..

Thx for any help or advide you have!!

The URC-8810w is a universal remote, the CD button puts the remote into CD mode, not the receiver. In order to make the CD button do what you want you would need to program it using JP1.

So with JP1 i could have the device button prepare the whole system to do that function, instead of just turning the remote into a copy of the OEM remote?

I read a little on the JP1, it seems i have to buy some cable, then I can program it on my computer? Is it complicated to program?

I have now discovered many other buttons that just dont work right... Can i also reprogram them with the JP1 cable? I was going to return the remote, but I would rather keep it if I can get it to work.

Thx alot for your help! Oh and if you know a good place to buy a JP1 in town or online id like to know..

Right. That requires installing software called an "extender" into the remote, so it is a little more complicated than basic use of JP1. But all that software is free and is decently documented, so the JP1 cable is still the only extra purchase.

Right.

Some people think it is; Others think it isn't. It's more a question of your attitude. The experts and ordinary users in the JP1 forum deliver answers faster and better than any other technical forum I've heard of, so if you find it coplicated you'll also find the required help.

Yes.

There is no walk-in retail for a JP1 cable. There are instructions posted for making one yourself, which is especially inexpensive if you can salvage the connectors out of some piece of obsolete electronics you forgot to throw out. Otherwise you can buy it online. Read the second and third "sticky" posts (and maybe others) in the MarketPlace area in the JP1 forum:
