I came across an article that described how to get rid of the problem of the remote glowing everytime you move it, bump it, and any of the other ways it comes on and quickly drains your batteries.

It's simple really, remove the batteries, remove the two screws under the batteries, carefully pry the case apart (leaving marks is inevitable). In the center top right you will clearly see resistor 34. You need to remove it as it is linked to the large rectangular silver block which is the motion sensor.
You need a staedy hand to melt the solder at the resistor and push it away. Make sure there is no solder connecting between the two points you just unsoldered. Check with an ohm meter.
Put is back together and "Voila" it will only come on when you press a button.

This worked on my Canadian model URC-9962. I am not responsible for you toasting your remote if you don't do this properly.

Good luck,

Chris

Chris,
Thank you for the post. Many others have posted regarding this potentially annoying feature of Kameleons. See:

Hi Jim,

I'm glad if my little tidbit helps anyone else tired of this annoying problem this remote has. I'm sure it's pure coincidence that a remote that sucks batteries is sold out of a R*dio Sh*ck store. ;-)

I had just joined your forum and was really just trying to find out how to get new codes to be able to operate my new Pansat 2500a FTA receiver.

Chris,
Did you ever get the codes?

Chris, I cannot thank you enough for posting this fix. It'll save my sanity because I'm running out of ways to trick my OFA 9960 Kameleon from turning on and my bank account from excessive battery purchases! I performed your fix by simply clipping one lead from the silver box that you described. Very easy to do even for a non-techy. It'll be a breeze to reverse if you choose. To activate the lighing now, simply press any area on the touch panel and voila! I recommend this fix to anyone who loves this remote but hate its' sensitivity to activation. Well done, Chris. OFA tech service claimed it cannot be done, DUH?
