Hi, I was programming my new 15-2116 remote last night and ran into more problems. Can you not learn to a power button? It will not take when I try. Also when I try and learn to the exit button, it makes me exit programming mode every time. Is the Chameleon 8 a better choice? I heard the Chameleon is not good for satellite? -Melvin

There's no need to start a new thread every time you have a new question about your 15-2116. If you keep all of your questions in the one thread we will have alot more context when answering you. Plus it would be nice to get a response to some of the answers we provide, which you have yet to do.

Most of the newer OFA and RS remotes have some special handling logic added for the POWER button (for the global POWER macro) and one of the side effects of this is that often the POWER button cannot be programmed using learning or advanced codes, but it is still programmable using JP1.

The Kameleon is no better or worse in this regard. Where did you hear that the Kameleon wasn't good for satellite and what's supposed to be wrong with it?

I read that it has two screens that have to be accessed to handle all satellite functions. I thought that you should always start a new thread when you have a new question. Otherwise, how would anyone know you have asked something else. I will provide responses from hereon. Sorry. How can you purchase a JP-1 cable in Canada? Thanks.

Not all Kameleons are the same, some are better in this regard than others, but they all support the concept of multiple screens in order to support as many different functions as they do. I believe the URC-9960 is better than the 15-2133 with regards to the multiple screens.

I thought that you should always start a new thread
when you have a new question.

If the question is completely un-related to the previous question, then yes you should, but if you just have more general questions about the same remote (in other words, a continuation of the conversation) then it's better to keep them in the same thread as this gives us more context. Those of us that answer 100s of posts here usually don't notice the posters id, so when you break you questions into multiple threads, we may not notice that they're all from the same person, but you (the poster) will probably expect us to remember details that you've mentioned in your earlier posts (and we won't remember them).

Otherwise, how would anyone know you have asked something else.

Everytime you post something new to a thread, it gets bumped back to the top of the list.

How can you purchase a JP-1 cable in Canada?

The same way you would from the US, go to one of these two web sites:

I am ordering a Jp-1 cable today. When is a pogo pin adapter needed? Should I get one just in case I later buy a remote that needs it? Is the battery retainer a useful purchase? I plan to buy the USB version as I figure it will be compatible with future computers.

F,
The pogo pins are primarily used with the Kameleons. They (the remotes) have pads; no pins, nor lands to solder pins in and therefore require a contact such as a pogo pin to be held to them while transferring the data. The 2116 has pins already installed, so you will not need the pogo pin adapter for it.
For some other remotes that do not have the pins already installed, the pogo pin adapter may be useful, but for most of these it is necessary to open the case and install an EEPROM anyway. If you can solder in an EEPROM you can install pins nearly with your eyes closed, so I would think most would do it while they are in there.

The battery retainer is also used with the Kameleon remotes to hold the batteries in place during transfer. Not necessary with the 2116.

The USB interface sounds like a reasonable choice.

Box above the remotes. Follow the links. Welcome to the jp1 world.

Perhaps one of the first things you should do is become a member of the jp1 forums, as jp1 questions should be asked there from now on.
