Hi all. i have a RS 2117 remote and i am having difficulty with the RF. Basically, it sucks. i have the base in a wood cabinet. i want to extend the IR module so that i can place the receiver outside the cabinet where it might work better. i am only about 50 ft away from it....

Being in a wooden cabinet shouldn't appreciably reduce the functioning of the RF base receiver, RF has no problem zapping through wood. You should be able to do better than 50' range.
Some things known to affect range: 1. weak batteries in the remote. 2. LCD screen in use (ie. laptop PC). 3. Mirrors between remote and base. 4. Metal (ie. refrigerator, furnace, metal cabinet, etc.) between remote and base. 5. House wiring "grid" between base and remote.
You didn't mention whether the cabinet has glass doors or not, but IR (from the base station) would penetrate to command your IR devices, so you may be able to position the base station somewhere else in the room to eliminate or counter effects from 3-5, and not "need" the "bugs". If not, and you need to move the base, get "bugs" with longer emmitter cords. If any of the factors (1-5) still exist, other than 50' bug cords still won't help.
