Was curious if anyone has come up with any universal codes for this box. I talked to the USDTV people and they hadn't found any codes yet. I have to one-for-all 8810w.

Thanks

Spawnman,

If you don't mind, how do you like that USDTV reciever? Are you just using it for OTA HD? Where did you buy it? Are you in a USDTV subscription area?

I don't know about Wes but so far I like my unit. The functionality of it could not be much simpler. The setup directions were fairly accurate and when it differed I was able to figure out what to do anyway. I've had my HDTV monitor for 2.5 years now and I've just viewed my very first High Definition TV program. Amazing - the detail available in the video is very good. Since I do not have anything else to compare it to I will just state a few facts about my situation.

I wasn't sure if I would be able to receive a strong enough signal (12 miles away with hills and houses in the way) so first I bought a $9 Phillips antenna from Wal Mart and connected it to the HDTV monitor. Well, I received the analog signals for all the channels in my area, not great but they were visible (grainy) and the audio was fine. I moved on to the next step since I was told if I could receive almost any quality of analog signal then the HDTV signal would be adequate. I then bought the USDTV Hisense Receiver from Wal Mart and was pleased the advice I'd received was accurate. The HDTV signal broke up now and then so I upgraded to the most amplfied Phillips antenna ~ $40. Repointing it and playing with the amplification solved the breakup problem for the most part and the slight interruptions are so infrequent that I don't mind when they occur. Now I would be much happierif ABC and NBC in my area would just get with the program and broadcast more HDTV. Currently PBS and CBS are my best sourch of HDTV.

In conclusion, the USDTV unit is mostly air but it performs the function it was bought to do. What more can I say. Oh yea, I had to use my first Optical audio connection since my Home Theater Receiver only had one Coax input. So far I've heard audio similar to DVD's but this aspect really hasn't been thouroughly tested yet because I have not received any HDTV movies to use as a comparison. However, I do hear the subwoofer being exercised and the surround sound speakers as well.

About the only thing I wish for was more competition from electronics manufacturers to drive down the hardware cost. Like I stated previously, the unit is mostly air and I can imagine a fairly straight forward low tech circuit board inside the box. Anyway, the thing works and maybe getting out the word will spur this whole HDTV revolution into high gear! I plan to begin calling my local stations and pick at them about their lack of HDTV programming.

I am not in a USDTV subscription area and I didn't even know about it when I bought the unit. I still am not clear exactly what it is but if the local broadcasters have the necessary bandwidth and can strike up agreements to broadcast other "channels" signals then I'm all for it (I love free) but I do not think it could possibly satisfy the typical consumers demand for the programming variety available through cable or satellite.

I don't know if I'll be back to this thread so if you want any more information or opinions e-mail me directly.
