Hi guys,

I'm new to the JP1 process (and posting in forums), so please bear with me and any newbie errors I make.
Here is my situation: I have a Cyberhome CH-DVR 1500, my remote is a URC 6131 (not JP1 ready) and it does not have any codes for the Cyberhome DVR. I called customer service for the remote and they do not have any codes at this time. So I thought that I may purchase another 6131 (JP1 ready- since I do like this remote and it works with everything else). My question is is the new remote and JP1 cable all that I need and pretty much guarantee that I'll get my remote to work with the DVR or do I also need a learning remote that is JP1 ready also. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Glenn

It is strange that OFA customer support said they have no upgrade for this device. They have an amazing library of upgrades and more amazing data on which models need which upgrades. Your device must be fairly common (given its several previous mentions in the various remote control groups).

I expect OFA does have the right upgrade and you just got one of the less skilled support people there.

If they didn't have the upgrade, they have at least one employee who knows how to get upgrades from the JP1 site (though I think it is quite rare for them to do so).

Doing it yourself with JP1 is easier and better (once you have the cable and a JP1 capable remote) but if you really didn't want to buy another 6131 for this, you might try again to convince OFA customer support to install the upgrade.

Hey Glenn,
It looks like the closest code in the URC_6131 is DVD/0698. The numeric buttons are right and the POWER button is right. Some of the transport keys are wrong but those can be fixed using advanced codes. If you get this code partially working, post back here and I'll give you the advanced codes to continue.

Thanks for your quick replies.
Johnsfine, I have called customer service think 4 times now, and each time I they said to call back in 1 or 2 months. The last time I called I started to ask the JP1 question that I started this thread with and was cut-off with "we don't know anything about that and will not talk about it."
Robman, I tried the 0698 code, but did not have any luck. Thanks for the suggestions, and I am still open to more. I ordered a 6131M and JP1 cable to see how dangerous I can be there. Again thanks for the replies.

Well that's weird, could you re-try just to eliminate the chance of user error. The DVD/0698 code uses exactly the same signals as the Cyberhome and many of the buttons are correct, including the numeric and POWER buttons.

Robman,

Can you say more about the advanced codes? I discovered the 0698 code with my 6131 using the search function. The target is a Cyberhome CH-DVD300. As you say, the power & number keys work, but some of the play/rewind/etc. keys are off.

The advanced codes are here, to map them to a key, use the non-lcd remote instructions on this page.

JP1 question. I'm trying to build a cable but I can't find what the pin-out should be from the remote contriol 6 pin header to my 9 pin connector on my computer. Can someone help? I have a RCU810B remote (I have already soldered a header onto the PCB).

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this either. MAybe someone could clue me in.

Thanks,
Al
