Hi All,

I've got 6011B00 remote and like it a lot. However, I can't quite set it up for my Phillips Tivo DSR6000. First of all, the default setup for VCR 0618 does not have all the keys working (no Clear or Dispaly for ex.). I got list of advanced codes, but only some of them work, others (like Rec or FF for ex., but not only) - don't. Actually it's kinda strange - they seem to work but 1 press out of about 100 :(
I tried assigning a button, tapping the codes directly - same effect.

Does it mean that my 6011 is not sutable for this? Do I need an upgrade or something?

Plese help,
comer

The version of code VCR0618 thats in the 6011, doesn't accept advanced codes. Only later remotes like the ofa 8910, 9910, 6131, 9960 or RS 2116, 2117, 2133 all have the version code VCR0618 that accepts advanced codes.

But some codes ARE accepted. I mean I can tap an advanced code for Menu for ex., assign it to a button and it works every time.
There is an issue with SOME advanced codes. And I wonder why? May be somebody has already gone through this?

Is there a way to upgrade my 0618 code version?

Thanks

Others have accepted "not working right', is the same as "not working at all". You can mail it in to the have the code added, they will have to solder some parts into the remote. I think its easier to get the PVR remote, 6131, has thumbs keys and everything.

When you use advanced codes in one of these setup codes that "can't take advanced codes" the signal that actually gets sent depends in a complex way on the immediately preceeding things you've done on the remote, and it is different for advanced codes sent directly by pressing set and three digits, vs. advanced codes sent as KeyMoves (using the 994 command to assign set and three digits to a key and then using that key), vs. advanced codes sent as macros. Many people have observed that it often sends the right thing. But I don't remember any reports of it working as well as you describe it working.

Is there a way to upgrade my 0618 code version?

If you had a JP1 cable and your remote had the three extra parts (eeprom, JP1 connector and jumper) required to use JP1, then it would be easy to upgrade it yourself.

Under some conditions, OFA will upgrade remotes that are mailled to them (you must call first to be authorized before mailing). If they do ANY upgrade, they replace your 6011 with one that has the three required parts soldered in, so when you get it back all you'd need in order to do any further upgrades yourself is the JP1 cable.

OFA is ABLE to add the improved version of VCR/0618 to a remote that has the old version of that. I have no guess whether they are WILLING to add that. They usually add setup codes that aren't present at all rather than slightly better versions of setup codes that are present.

Thanks guys!

I think I will better off just buying a new 6131. Although the situation with 6011 is quite interesting. Somehow it IS able to send "Record" successfully by using default code set. It is sending some code, doesn't it? But if I try to program the same function through advanced codes it does not work almost at all. With "almost" mening that in some rare times it suddenly works.

Oh well, I guess the remote was not ment to do what I want :)

Thanks again,

It sounds like you are curious to know why it works like this. The old version of the Tivo code, which is what's in the URC-6011, uses two bytes of "command code" data for each button, however, when you program a button using an advanced code, you are only programming the first byte of data. The data in the second byte is random, as John stated. When you randomly manage to get the correct data in the second byte, the keymove will work, when it randomly gets the wrong data, it won't.

If you want to improve the URC-6011, I can sell you the parts that you would need to solder into it for $3. You could then either make yourself a JP1 cable, or buy one ready made for $18 and add the updated Tivo code yourself.

Alternatively, I have some URC-6011s that are already modified that I sell for $15 each (with $2 shipping). I could also pre-load the updated Tivo code for you. (This updated code would have all the buttons mapped, *AND* you can program additional buttons using advanced codes if you like).

Sounds like a project! :D
I now my way around a soldering iron so I would get those parts, upgrade my remote and learn JP1 along the way :)
But you do realise that I am in Canada, right? Meaning that shipping is probably gonna kill the whole idea 8(

Anyway, contact me at [email protected] if you think we can arrange something.

Thanks,

This is a 2 year old thread about a Tivo, how did you stumble in here?
