Newbie question here guys. I have read through some of the past threads and noticed that the RS 2116 probably won't control much on my receiver (Sony 840 HTIB) without going the JP1 route. However, I just ordered a RS 2116 online before finding this forum. My question is do you think I would better off sending the RS 2116 back and looking into a Sony universal remote since I also have a Sony TV as well and really don't want to miss around with the JP1 stuff.

If the RS 2116 does not have the built in codes or its keycodes aren't set the way you want and the Sony remote does all this, then the Sony is the way to go.

Keep in mind that even without messing with JP1, the 2116 supports keymoves and learning which usually means that you can control all the stuff on your receiver. (Sony 840 HTIB)

Even Sony remotes don't have the new code Sony is using on their systems. But they probably have enough memory to learn all the commands. If you want the 2116 to control the sony, follow the directions you'll find here;

Is that something Confucius said?

That's usually my cue to not bother responding!
